  JONATHAN CHURCHILL: DEFENDING OUR ISLAND
DEF LEPPARD: MIRRORBALL (LIVE AND MORE)

Do you wanna get rocked?

Def Leppard are a national treasure and their first proper live CD rocks! If you're a long-term fan there's lots here to enjoy and it proves there is life beyond the massive-selling 'Hysteria/Pyromania' albums. But it's the classic hits that stand-out.

'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Animal' and 'Armageddon It' sound fantastic, while the all-time guilty pleasure 'Let's Get Rocked' shamelessly steals the show. The archives are raided too with a life-enhancing version of 'Switch 625'.

There are also three new bonus studio tracks for our consideration. 'Undefeated', a fist-pumping stadium anthem, is suitably ludicrous. 'Kings Of The World' is Def Leppard doing their best (maybe worst?) Queen impression! It's over-produced power pop in the greatest sense and totally infectious.

Final track, 'It's All About Believin'' slows the pace a little and sounds relatively contemporary – like a hidden track from their last album 'Welcome To The Sparkle Lounge'. With the classic Lepps guitar sound it's breezy summer track that will sound great on the radio.

In addition to the 2-CD concert tracks, the album also includes a 50 minute DVD that contains live performances and intimate backstage footage of the band captured on the road.

Verdict: Like a dog wearing sunglasses, the Lepps are impossible not to like. This album's easy going, fun and, just like eating a Big Mac, you soon want to go back for another bite!

Don't be fooled though, under the polished sheen Def Leppard are a talented, classy band and well-deserving of their classic NWOBHM status, despite the overly pop sounds of recent albums. If they tour the UK later this year, they are not to be missed.

NOW AEROSMITH FANS CAN HAVE THEIR NAME IN FUTURE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

aerosmith

Here's a fabulous Aerosmith pictorial document as seen through the lens of famed British photographer Tony Mottram. Tony photographed the band over many years for various magazines and now has a monthly column here on MetalTalk.

As was often the case, only one photo ever got published and in the fast moving world of weekly magazines sometimes entire sessions would be done and left undeveloped.

Tony started shooting Aerosmith from towards the end of the period with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay and onwards through the return of original members Joe Perry and Brad Whitford that resulted in the albums 'Done With Mirrors', 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump'.

As well as shooting the band several times in England, this collection includes images from a session at the band's rehearsal room in Boston. Littered throughout is a mixture of live and off stage photos including a selection of photos taken at London's famous Marquee club when they were joined on stage by Jimmy Page.

This limited edition hardback book, presented in a flight case and printed on silk paper, is an opportunity to own a unique selection of photos, most of which have never seen the light of day before.
