michael schenker

Anyone who witnessed the alcoholic and mental breakdown of the versatile German guitarist in 2007 could be forgiven for never wanting to see the mad axeman in action ever again. Schenker was to quote one of his own signature tunes in UFO, Rock Bottom!

Ze six string stinger who has astounded fans worldwide with his amazing fret work from his time with the Scorpions as a young teenager, then throughout the seventies with UFO and then his own MSG was constantly topping the polls as the best guitarist in the world. These past five years Schenker has had to work from from the bottom to the top all over again.

Getting his act back together again, a clean shaven and minded Schenker had to go back to the clubs to rebuild his reputation. With help from his friends, Schenker has made two well received albums, 'In The Midst Of Beauty' from 2008 and last year's 'Temple Of Rock'. Metal Mickey has once again proved the doubters wrong by spellbinding concert goers at venues that he rightly deserves to be playing once again.

For anyone who had given up hope of our guitar hero ever capturing his former greatness then this live DVD is immortalized proof that Schenker is here to stay, playing in my opinion better than ever before.

Fully focussed and determined, Schenker is the king of the Flying V.

This DVD was filmed at the O13 in Tilburg Holland, the home of the Roadburn Festival, one of Europe's best live venues. I was lucky to catch Schenker and co the very night before at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire in a storming and mind blowing gig and despite playing seven gigs in a row and travelling overnight to the Netherlands, the band show no sign of Metal fatigue here.

With a wide range of camera angles, you get the full set that featured Scotsman Doogie White on vocals plus former Scorpions buddies Herman 'ze German' Rarebell and Francis Bucholz, along with the loyal keysman/guitarist Wayne Findlay. Plus Michael Voss appears here to sing on 'Hanging On'.

It's a colossal set list taking in Michael's solo career plus the very best of his time in the Scorpions and UFO. Although Michael wasn't in the Scorps when they recorded 'Rock You Like A Hurricane', this track is rightly included as it was written by Herman ze other crazy German and is gloriously cheesy and magnificent. They certainly don't write them like that any more and that is a shame.

With a bonus concert of the appearance at the High Voltage Festival in London from 2011 which featured guests Rudolf Schenker, Pete Way and Jeff Scott Soto this is a must have purchase for any Schenker devotee.

Most folks will have already asked for Led Zep's 'Celebration Day' on their Christmas wish list but be nice and ask Santa to put some Schenker in yer Christmas Stocking.
