Hull based Sworn Amongst released their debut album, 'And So It Begins', in 2008 and have been making a name for themselves ever since with their live and recorded output.

'Scourge Of The Omnipotent' is their new three track EP and serves as something of a stop gap to keep their fans happy and to prove that their new vocalist Sy James (who joined in July 2012) is more than capable of taking the band to the next level.

Track one is 'The Ashes Of Your Demise' shows the band mean business from the start with it's solid rhythm guitar riff coupled along with an equally solid drum beat courtesy of Jonny Harper laying down a solid base for the track. Likewise, the main guitar solo is very competent and well performed - certainly not overstaying its welcome.

Let's not forget the vocal track from James, of course, who has good clear voice and puts on a great performance - proving that he's definitely the right man for the job.

'Ruins Of Our Own Construction' has a more stop-start riff but the intro is still a high octane blast. Overall, it's a good mid-paced song with James stretching his vocals abilities a bit more but he still manages to find all the notes. There is a very good overall production on the track with all the different elements from the short but accomplished guitar solo to James' change in vocal tome all coming together to produce what essentially ends up as one of my favourite tracks on the EP.

The final track, 'Through The Eyes Of The Decimated' which again has Harper showing his dexterity around the drum kit whilst the relentless guitar solo blasts out in the background. The slowest of the three songs here, it still manages along at a fair pace and the inclusion of the backing vocals could be used in a live gig to provide the opportunity for some audience interaction. All in all, though, it's a good solid song that beings to an end this very competent EP.

On the strength of this, its clear that this band are on the upwards slope and with their gig calendar for the latter part of 2013 and the start of 2014 filling up nicely, this is a band that I would recommend you go and see if they're playing a venue near you.
