the cadillac three

If you like your Rock music from the Southern side, then you should do yourself a favour and pick up a copy of this album because it's a perfect accompaniment to a lazy afternoon in the sunshine with a large bottle of fine bourbon.

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, The Cadillac Three are a band who very much reflects the influences of where they live and work. There's a deep Southern influence in everything that they do and no more so than on the first song on the album, 'I'm Southern'. The track has a big meaty guitar riff courtesy of Jaren Johnston whilst drummer Neil Mason throws out a generous and solid beat.

Johnston has a great Southern drawl in his voice and it really is a joy to hear as he navigates his way through the wordy lyrical path. "I'm Southern and it ain't my fault, my baby came from Louisiana and liked the hot sauce", he says with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek showing that innuendo is alive and well with this band!

Title track 'Tennessee Mojo' slows the pace slightly, and has a slightly blemished lyrical sound but this uncomplicated track proves that simplicity is sometimes the best thing. 'Turn It On' is another slower paced number which has a reference to some southern staples adding a sense of humour to the song making it a great track with a basic sound of what sounds like a steel guitar making it a firm favourite of mine after few listens. Oh and just for the record, I'd love to visit a country-fied version of the Moulin Rouge!

There are a good few mid-paced numbers on the album too, though, including 'Get Your Buzz On'. This jaunty number is something that wouldn't look out of place on an Aerosmith album, and it swiftly became another favourite of mine. It's chorus is simple enough that soon has you singing along, and the track would also lend itself to be played on acoustic guitar (minus drums) and it would still being a great number.

There are actually a couple of numbers sees the acoustic guitars being plugged in showing that the band don't need to hide behind electric guitars. 'Down To The River' has a different feel altogether from any of the other tracks presented here, and it really comes alive with the addition of drums and tambourine. The effects laden backing vocals add an extra dimension to the song too – fantastic stuff all round.

'Days Of Gold' has an altogether more folky feels as the acoustic guitars are to the front once again with a bouncy drumbeat from Mason. The extended mid section with hand clap accompaniment is sure to get any live audience dancing along, so I really hope they include this track as part of their live set because it just reeks of a good time party vibe. Full marks to Johnston who plays a stunning guitar solo while Mason keeps the track driving ever onwards.
