'Sacred Warpath' EP

Johnny Main

Those Teutonic thrash Metal legends are back with a new EP, 'Sacred Warpath' but before you get too excited though the EP contains only one new studio track - the title track - and three live cuts recorded in Germany during the band's 2014 tour.

According to the PR release included with the EP the band were originally going to keep the 'Sacred Warpath' track for their upcoming album (which has still to have it's title and release date confirmed) but elected to release it now as a taster of the new material.

As a track on it's own it stands up really well in the context of Sodom's previous material. Tom Angelripper's voice has never sounded better as he screams his way through the song's intro before the drums from Markus 'Makka' Freiwald kick in and the tracks pace quickens.

Angelripper sounds deliciously evil as he gives a great vocal peformance. The guitars and booming bass guitar are solid enough sounding too, giving an overall polished sound to the track. If this track really is an indication of what's coming next from the band then I, for one, can't wait to get my hands on the new album.

Of course, there are the three live tracks to consider too, 'The Saw Is The Law' from the 1991 EP of the same name, 'Stigmatized' from 2013s 'Epitome Of Terror' album and 'City Of God' from the band's self titled 2006 album are the epitome of the trail blazed by the band and the tracks demonstrate clearly that live as well as in the studio, this is a band to be reckoned with.

The guitar solos from Bernd 'Bernemann' Kost are impeccable whilst the thunderous drums from Freiwald are nothing if not heavy and steady.

'Sacred Warpath' will be available on CD and limited edition 10" clear vinyl (1,000 copies) from Monday 1st December 2014.
