||BONDS 007 ROCK BAR IN SAN ANTONIO
I love rock and roll bars and I have been fortunate enough to visit some pretty well respected
establishments in the last couple of years. Places such as Manitoba's in New York City, the
Double Down Saloon in Las Vegas and the Rainbow Bar and Grill and the Whiskey a Go Go
on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
These are more than just drinking or eating establishments, these places have become folklore as well as rock and roll legend. They have built their reputations on who has walked in the door, what kind of parties, debauchery or fights have occurred there and who has jammed there as well.

Here in San Antonio, there is a fine establishment that can hold its own with these well respected establishments. It's called Bonds 007. Bonds is located on 450 Soledad which not very far from the main public library. Bonds has been open since 2000.
I have been going to Bonds since the fall of 2004. When you walk in it is very much a rock bar. There loads of framed pictures of bands like Led Zeppelin, Motley Crue and the Rolling Stones. There are also photos of rock guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Billy
Gibbons and Carlos Santana.
The bar table is lined up with every band's logo from Aerosmith to ZZ Top. There is a total of five pool tables, three in the front and two in the back, a vending machine, popcorn machine, and microwave oven. They don't have a kitchen but you are allowed to bring in your own food.
On special occasions like the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras they have special buffets of food like sandwiches, chips, dip etc. Bonds is also world famous for their CD Jukebox which contains CDs by Metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Pantera, Metallica as well as American rockers as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Credence Clearwater Revival and Johnny Cash.
There is a great guy and a hardworking man that holds down the fort at Bonds. His name is Robert C Smith and no, he is not Robert Smith from the Cure. Robert has been with Bonds since 2002.
"I have liked the music and I have been looking for a chance to bartend, on a scale of one to ten, I give Bonds a 9," said Smith. "We are mainly tequila, whiskey and a beer bar.
"There have been a lot of rock and rollers that have dropped by in the past such as Jerry Cantrell from Alice and Chains, Mudvane, and Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson from Queensryche. The bar is across the street from the public library and not too far from the River walk, the Alamo, and the River center Mall."
