Dirkschneider

U.D.O. is a German band led by former Accept front man Udo Dirkschneider and 'Navy Metal Night' is the band's new live release which showcases a very special live show on both CD and DVD or BluRay.

The recording took place on 20th February 2014 at a sold out performance held in the Stadthalle, Tuttlingen (located about 80 miles south of Stuttgart) which featured the German Navy Orchestra, Marinemusikkorps Nordsee, for a one-off concert, and as the symphonic sound of the orchestra and the choir merged with the songs of U.D.O. and made the evening a unique unforgettable experience for the audience.

With fourteen studio albums to choose from, the band had no shortage of material on which to draw – the most difficult task was choosing which songs would come over best with the addition of the orchestra and choir. In the end, the performance took in seventeen songs from 'Animal House', the title track from the band's debut album in 1987 up to 'Book Of Faith' and 'King Of Mean' from their latest album at the time this live set was recorded, 'Steamhammer', which was released in 2013.

The addition of Doro Pesch on 'Dancing With An Angel' (a duet which originally featured on 2002s 'Man And Machine' album) adds a bit of extra special sparkle to an already unforgettable performance and it's great to see her talking part in such a special gig. Udo himself has invested so much in this particular release to make sure it's the very best it can be and his hard work has paid off handsomely both in the sound quality and the visual elements of the recording and performance.

The actual performance from the band is absolutely great with them on top form as they work their way through the unique performance with the orchestra and band working together in glorious harmony. It may be that orchestras and rock bands have worked together before, but this truly is one of the best examples.

Dirkschneider

Frontman Udo Dirkschneider, especially, gives his performance absolutely everything and you can see from his face what a real joy the whole experience was – so much of a joy, in fact, that the band plan to repeat the Musikkorps Bundeswehr (the orchestra of the unified armed forces of Germany) at Wacken this weekend.

If you're a fan of U.D.O. (or Accept, even) and may have fallen out of favour with the band, then this is one release that must have a place in your collection. If you're a current fan of U.D.O., then I'm pretty sure this is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year for you, and you know what? You're in for a real treat!
