Best Album: Queensrÿche – 'Condition Hüman'

queensryche

This year I've reviewed over seventy albums for MetalTalk this year, so it was always going to be a huge task. Was it The Amorettes excellent 'Game On', 'My God Given Right' by Helloween or 'Repentless' from Slayer?

No, I went for Queensrÿche's 'Condition Hüman', which is a true return to form with new vocalist Todd La Torre at the helm.

Best Single/EP: Voodoo Vegas – 'Hypnotise'

Without a doubt, my favourite EP of the year has been 'Hypnotise' from Bournemouth's based quintet Voodoo Vegas. It's four tracks of full on glorious Rock n' Roll that absolutely makes you want another full album from the band sooner rather than later!

Best Gig: Anthrax – The Cathouse, Glasgow (November)

I've been to more than my fair share of gigs this year, so choosing one favourite was always going to be a difficult task. In the end, I went with Anthrax at The Cathouse nightclub in Glasgow.

Probably the smallest gig the band have ever played in their career, this was the Metal gig ticket to have in Scotland for 2015 and the band were truly on fire that night.

Best Band: Massive Wagons

Normally this would be Slayer but since the loss of founder member Jeff Hanneman, the band have really been treading water. Instead, my band of the year has to be Massive Wagons. I've been watching the band for over five years and with every release and every gig, they just get better and better.

I'm looking forward to seeing them live again next year with two gigs on my radar already. Oh, and "Massive Wagons for Download 2016" you say? The campaign starts right here!

Best New Band: Crashdollz

Working at MetalTalk exposes you to bands that you'd probably miss out on, and that was certainly the case with Detroit based quartet Crashdollz.

When their album dropped into my inbox I was struck by their passion and their musical ability, I'm just hoping I can make a trip across to the US to experience the Crashdollz live show first hand in 2016. Failing that, a new album will do nicely – no pressure then!

Best Video: Stoneface – 'Superhero'

Glasgow based Stoneface hit the streets with the anthemic 'Superhero' in mid-2015 and the band pulled out all the stops to self-finance a promotional video for the song.

Full of fun, full of characters, Superheroes, of course, and not forgetting a familiar face drinking at the bar! Add in the fact it's a great song, it all makes for one unforgettable video.

Things To Look Forward To In 2016

No-one knows what 2016 holds but I do know that with Megadeth's 'Dystopia' due to drop in January followed by Anthrax's 'For All Kings' due in February it looks to be a good start to the year whilst a new Amorettes album later in the year seems to be a certainty too.

Hard Rock Hell has been outstanding for the last couple of years and I'm expecting the same next year – especially as it's celebrating it's tenth anniversary. Bring it on 2016, that's what I say!
