'Shy' is the second single by Basingstokefive5-piece indie rockers FlashFires and follows their twice-released debut 'Circus Boy'.

Yes, these youngsters have penned another jolly tune for airplay results drawing vaguely on their blurb-listed influences - Franz Ferdinand, Orange Juice and many more: I hear overtones of Undertones, Coral and Wombats, while Keane are very much present vocally.

At just under three minutes 'Shy' crams in quite a lot with cute hooks (why am I reminded of Mel Brooks' 'A Lion Is Eating My Foot Off'?), jangling guitars, and some snappy rhythmic playing too: it's nothing new, but is very likeable.

They have international management and friends in high places too (Jimmy Page, no less), and some decent touring/support credits as well. Like all genres theirs is packed with equally well-equipped bands, and as enjoyable as it is I just don't know if this single has enough about it to get them noticed.

I'd like to see FlashFires live to get a better feel for their material, and hopefully that's where they'll prove themselves fit for a long and fruitful career. I wish them all the luck in the world.
