  QUIREBOYS SLEAZE ROCK RESURGENCE:
IF ROD STEWART FRONTED THE STONES...

Brit classic rock troupe The Quireboys have been enjoying a creative resurgence of late, releasing albums at a rate they'd have chortled at back in their 'salad days' in the late eighties/early nineties.

However, happily, this newfound Stakhanovite efficiency hasn't resulted in a drop in quality, as new album 'Twisted Love', released on 2nd September on On Yer Rocka Recordings, features easily some of the best material the band has committed to wax in its long, sometimes hapless career.

Closing song 'Midnight Collective', for instance, is a sleazy, almost sinister Stonesy strut that tells you all you need to know about the viability of The Quireboys as a songwriting entity in 2016. The track simply oozes class, with vocalist Spike running the show with his hoarse, 'something of the night' narrative style, whilst the rest of the band construct a slithering, sexy edifice to seventies funk-informed rock in the background. It's magnificent stuff and conjures mischievous thoughts of what a Rod Stewart-fronted Rolling Stones might have sounded like had such a momentous event come to pass forty years ago...

Quireboys released the 'Twisted Love' EP on 19th August and you can listen to it on iTunes right here...

'Life's A Bitch' rocks like a particularly unreconstructed bastard as Spike airs a list of grievances to a former love gone sour, and the sassy, four-to-the-floor 'Stroll On' evokes memories of growing up on Canal Street in New York in the seventies with its r'n'b thud. Which is strange, because I never spent any time in Canal Street at all in the seventies. The power of music, eh?

Elsewhere, 'Shotgun Way' is mightily impressive, whilst the title track should be lighting up radios everywhere if there's any justice, and whilst Spike sometimes gets a bit overwhelmed by the roaring guitars of Paul Guerin and Guy Griffin - on the honking, Aerosmithy opening track, in particular, he sounds like he's struggling to hold his own against the blues storm being whipped up around him - that's a small price to pay to be able to hear the man reciting his sweet street poetry one more time. Wonderful stuff.

NOW AEROSMITH FANS CAN HAVE THEIR NAME IN FUTURE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

aerosmith

Here's a fabulous Aerosmith pictorial document as seen through the lens of famed British photographer Tony Mottram. Tony photographed the band over many years for various magazines and now has a monthly column here on MetalTalk.

As was often the case, only one photo ever got published and in the fast moving world of weekly magazines sometimes entire sessions would be done and left undeveloped.

Tony started shooting Aerosmith from towards the end of the period with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay and onwards through the return of original members Joe Perry and Brad Whitford that resulted in the albums 'Done With Mirrors', 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump'.

As well as shooting the band several times in England, this collection includes images from a session at the band's rehearsal room in Boston. Littered throughout is a mixture of live and off stage photos including a selection of photos taken at London's famous Marquee club when they were joined on stage by Jimmy Page.

This limited edition hardback book, presented in a flight case and printed on silk paper, is an opportunity to own a unique selection of photos, most of which have never seen the light of day before.

This unique item is presented in an aluminium flight case and will be published in late November. Earlybird subscribers who order by 31st October will have their name printed within a dedicated page in the book.
