MARK TAYLOR'S BIG CITY NIGHTS
DELAIN: "WE'VE DEFINITELY GOT A LOT MORE TRICKS UP OUR SLEEVE"
Dutch gothic symphonic rockers Delain have just released their fifth studio album, 'Moonbathers', an opus which takes them to the next higher level and is full of glandular orchestral movements and soaring symphonic sounds.
MetalTalk's Mark Taylor met up with vocalist Charlotte Wessels and keyboardist Martijn Westerholt on the balcony of the Koko in London where Delain will be headlining in November as part of their European tour with special guests Evergrey and Kobra & The Lotus.
Delain celebrated their tenth anniversary this year since the release of their debut album 'Lucidity'. When asked about wether the band have fulfilled their ambitions, Charlotte Wessels promised: "We've got a lot more tricks up our sleeve."
Martijn Westerholt is optimistic, saying: "Let's go to Wembley next time."
In the interview the pair talk about the album title, the story behind the track 'Glory And The Scum' and getting the blessing from Brian May for their cover of the Queen track 'Scandal'.
On the forthcoming European tour, Westerholt said: "We picked them for the tour because we think it's important we give the people coming a great night. I've listened to Evergrey for a long time and I love their music. Kobra & The Lotus are new and I want to give them a platform. It's a great combination."
