Formed back in November 1988, Supersuckers hail from Tucson, Arizona and are the brainchild of Eddie Spaghetti and Dan Bolton who still remain in the band today along with Ron Heathman who left in 2009.

The band's early years saw them record various singles from small record labels before they were signed to Sub Pop in 1992 on which their first album, 'The Smoke of Hell' was released.

The band released another four albums on the Sub Pop label including 1993's 'Good Livin' Platter', an album of cover songs done country style, which was recorded under the Junkyard Dogs pseudonym, 1995's 'The Sacrilicious Sounds of the Supersuckers' and their final album for the label, 'How the Supersuckers Became the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World' in 1999.

In the same year, the band also released 'The Evil Powers of Rock 'N' Roll' for Koch Records before the band formed their own record label, Mid-Fi Recordings in 2001, on which a majority of their subsequent recordings were released.

Post-2001, the band released the 2003 'Motherfuckers Be Trippin'' studio album and another in 2008 titled, 'Get It Together' and 2014's 'Get the Hell' well as numerous live albums including the Country album, 'Live at the Tractor Tavern' in 2004 and 2006's 'Live at Bart's CD Cellar & Record Shop' before the band took a hiatus to allow Spaghetti to do his own solo record and tour.

The band reformed in 2011 when they were invited to support the reactivated Thin Lizzy (now re-named Black Star Riders, of course) on their first European tour, and this was followed by a co-headline tour of clubs throughout North America with Nashville Pussy.

The band's new album returns to the country theme they have explored before, and why not when they're this good at it – this is a feel good album with the band's tongue's firmly planted in their cheeks at the same time.

Title track 'Holdin' The Bag' is first up and it's the epitome of the laid back sound the band are going for. Spaghetti puts in a super-laid back vocal while the harmonica gives the track its distinctive sound. It's Spaghetti who comes out on top with his performance on 'High And Outside' too. This is a mid paced number that became a firm favourite of mine very quickly with some truly great guitar work which doesn't try to upstage the great vocal from Spaghetti.

'I Can't Cry' features a turn from guest vocalist, alternative country singer Lydia Loveless which is a watershed moment on the album. The simple vocals of Spaghetti first take hold before he passes it over to Loveless, then the main rhythm section comes in, followed by both voices blending in a glorious sound.

If you're not sure about enjoying this album, then this is the track I would suggest you start with – a real high point for me.

'Let's Bounce' kicks off what you could call a slightly abusive intro from which Spaghetti where he used uses pretty much every type of mild abuse going (small list) but it's all very much done in a tongue in cheek way.

It's a jaunty wee number that never takes itself to seriously, oh, and there's a great guitar solo jammed into the mix too. 'That's How It Gets Done' has Spaghetti sounding not unlike Bob Dylan with a thoughtful vocal, and what sounds like a violin pushing the music to the fore, the band never tire of mixing things up.

For me 'Jibber Jabber' and the later 'Shimmy Shake' are thoroughly enjoyable numbers too. The latter is possibly the fastest tempo number on the album but it's another glorious track that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Likewise, the latter is a great sing-along number before another great guitar solo.

With the band's gig dairy for 2016 filling up already as they cross North America in February, let's hope they're putting together a European Tour for later in the year as this is one gig that I definitely don't want to miss.
