ARCHIVE / Les Binks Priesthood Unleashed In The Beast From The East

ARCHIVE – First Published 19 April 2018. On the coldest night of the year, Les Binks Priesthood were Unleashed In The Beast From The East.

The former Judas Priest drummer returned to his studded roots to perform tracks from the albums that he originally featured on – ‘Stained Class’, ‘Killing Machine’ and that seminal live opus ‘Unleashed In The East’ – for the first time since leaving the Metal Gods in 1979.

Surrounded by his Tama Starclassic Maple drum kit, Les Binks and his younger Priesthood charged into ‘Hell Bent For Leather’ and the treasure chest was soon opened with forgotten gems such as the innocence of ‘Rock Forever’ and the slow grind of ‘Evil Fantasies’ with the guitarists capturing the original sound.

Having the daunting task of vocals was Adam Sheppard who is very much his own man, being more of a growler than a howler.

Covers that Priest very much made their own were remembered with a bruising ‘The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown)’ and the class of ‘Diamonds And Rust’.

Binks thunderbolted through ‘Exciter’, a track that predates the assault of ‘Painkiller’ by some twelve years, and later he would tell the story behind his co-write of the dark epic ‘Beyond The Realms Of Death’ with featured a stunning solo from Gus Mark.

After delivering the goods with ‘Running Wild’, ‘Sinner’ and ‘Starbreaker’, homage was paid to later day Priest classics with ‘Breaking The Law’ and ‘Living After Midnight’.

A dream gig for Priest historians. Fall to your knees and repent if you please.
