Bloodstock is in full swing now with the first batch of bands all putting on tremendous performances and setting the bar high for the next three days of solid, wall-to-wall Heavy Metal.

Forever Still were a curious choice for main stage opener but their dark, atmospheric Metal worked beautifully as the sun threatened to break the cloud cover over Derbyshire.

Chelsea Grin's oi/djent crossover style won them plenty of new admirers while Iron Rat didn't bring their weed machine but did bring a certain groove and those lucky enough to have caught them on the Sophie stage will be thankful they made the effort.

Other highlights of Bloodstock Friday so far have included a typically brutal set from Whitechapel and Embodiment, who delighted those present at the New Blood Stage after Merithian had opened it with a very loud bang.

Special mention also to Internal Conflict who made an assured statement of intent on the Sophie stage and Thuum who absolutely confirmed that the quality available on the New Blood stage is pretty much unbeatable this year.

Our two MetalTalk photographers, John Inglis and Will Tudor, have been busy boys this morning and this fine selection of shots of almost every band who have played so far gives you a great insight into what you are missing if you didn't make the trip to Derbyshire.

For us, we've got three full days of the best Metal to be found anywhere in the UK this weekend and we wouldn't want it any other way. Stay tuned for lots more regular updates from Bloodstock 2017.
