Last year's triumphant performance at Camden's Underworld on a Monday night set the ball rolling for this, Heidevolk's first ever UK headline tour, and it's the last night of a very successful run that has seen the band gain new fans in Wakefield, Edinburgh and Manchester.

Rowan and Koen spoke with us before the London gig and told us all about their adventures in Britain and how pleased they were to be back in Blighty and you can enjoy the full conversation right here:

Heidevolk celebrate their fifteenth birthday this year and these UK dates were the first part of a series of anniversary shows, then it's into the studio to create album number seven, as Rowan reveals in our conversation above.

Tonight though, it's all about capitalising on the gains they made in London last year and that was achieved in fine style, through another solid and stirring performance in front of a more than respectable crowd.

There's a few factors that make Heidevolk unique, not least double male vocals, and not a growl on show at all as Lars and Jaco harmonise beautifully and alternate their lead songs. Then there's the very subject matter itself and there are battle tales aplenty for a crowd with hammers held aloft but their main message is one of nature, namely their homeland of Gelderland and it's preservation.

It was a blistering performance from a band on top form and it stirred the audience who offered the Netherlanders a rousing reception after each number and rightly so because their musicianship, executed with this kind of skill and passion, more than deserves it.

Heidevolk put themselves in danger of becoming a 'one-hit wonder' when they scored massive success with their now well-known cover of Normaal's 'Vulgaris Magistralis' which has now notched up over five million hits on YouTube but thankfully, Metal people are prepared to put some effort into their listening so their many other great songs, including 'Saxenland' , 'Winter Woede' and many other hidden treasues, have all kept pace and gained similar listener figures and tonight, those experiencing Heidevolk for the very first time were made acutely aware just why, especially after a very special 'Venland' which was dedicated to the UK hordes.

With a setlist like this, Heidevolk look set to conquer and it's got to be an Underworld headline gig next time round, surely? They'll have a new album by then and will have moved another couple of rungs up the Heavy Metal ladder and deservedly so.
