New Festival Celebrates The Guitar And Its Finest Players

While musical fads and fashions come and go, the guitar – in all its forms – remains one of the most popular instruments in the world.

Reflecting the instrument's enduring appeal, Guitar Nation 2010 is a three-day festival – to be held at London's Olympia between 7-9 March – celebrating the guitar and its greatest players.

The inaugural Guitar Nation event features the finest acoustic, electric and bass guitar talent from around the world and the festival's unique blend of concert performances, seminars and masterclasses mean a host of features for musicians and guitar music fans to enjoy during the weekend.

The highlights of Guitar Nation 2010 include:

• Steve Vai – arguably the most influential guitarist of his generation – performing a brand new guitar-playing masterclass. The session will give an insight into Steve's jaw-dropping technique, taking visitors on an exclusive inside trip to a Vai recording session with legendary producer Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve, Marilyn Manson). Guitar Nation will be Steve's only UK appearance in 2010.

• Other masterclass performers include Toto's Steve Lukather (one of the most-recorded guitar players in the world, having appeared on more than 1,000 albums), Pink Floyd's Guy Pratt, Elliott Randall (Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers), Neil Taylor (Robbie Williams) and fret-melter Albert Lee.

• Among the other high-profile players demonstrating technique and giving advice on playing and careers include Ace (Skunk Anansie), Youth, Bernie Marsden (Whitesnake), Phil Hilborne (We Will Rock You) and Neil Murray (Whitesnake).

• Guitar Nation is to host seminars aimed at exploring the future of the music business in the digital age. Speakers include John Webster (CEO of the Music Managers Forum), Jon Morter – founder of Facebook group 'Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No 1' – and the Guitar Institute Knowledge Bank team of songwriters, A&R professionals and producers.

Finally, two special concerts are to open and close this veritable feast of six-string supremacy. Super-trio PSP – featuring musical luminaries Pino Palladino (The Who, John Mayer, Jeff Beck), Philippe Saisse (Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Al Jarreau) and Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who, Jeff Beck) – make their UK debut on Friday 7 May. And two legends of classical and jazz guitar John Williams and John Etheridge join forces for a unique, genre-defying performance on Sunday 8 May.
