Slayer frontman Tom Araya has been taken to hospital after falling ill moments before the band's scheduled appearance as headliner of Australia's biggest heavy rock touring festival, Soundwave.
The band arrived at the venue mid Saturday afternoon but Tom had to be taken to hospital and "has been ordered by the doctors to stay in for observations".

No details about Tom's condition have been released. The decision to cancel the gig was apparently made just moments before the band were due onstage.
The promoter, AJ Maddah, has said that Tom will be OK for the next leg of the Soundwave festival in Melbourne on Saturday.
Slayer had already recruited a guest guitarist, Gary Holt from Exodus, to fill in for Jeff Hanneman on the Australian tour. Hanneman is currently recovering from surgery on his right arm after a spider bite earlier this month left him with necrotizing fasciitis, a disease which destroys skin, fat and tissue.
