Townsend has an auspicious career, which includes singing lead vocals on Steve Vai's 'Sex & Religion' album, before starting his own project under the pseudonym Strapping Lad in the 90s, and then forming The Devin Townsend Band and finally The Devin Townsend Project in 2009. The last two albums from the Project, 'Deconstruction' and 'Ghost', were both released earlier this year.
Damnation Festival director Gavin McInally enthused:
"It's not often that bookings go our way so we're able to announce The Devin Townsend Project in a year when Ulver and Godflesh have already confirmed, (so this) is something special."
Also on the bill are Taiwanese black metallers Chthonic, plus there will be UK exclusives by Ulver, Decapitated and God Is An Astronaut, and performances by Godflesh, Evile, Amplifier, Doom, Shining, Turisas, Dragged Into Sunlight, plus there are more to be announced.
