The Melvins, Hardcore Grunge legends who were a major influence on Nirvana, are bringing their quirky distortiveness to the UK for a spate of gigs.

The tour is in support of their album 'Sugar Daddy Live', released in May and recorded during their fabled appearance at the Busta-Guts Club in Downey, California.

The Melvins formed in 1983 and their hardcore, distortive sound inspired Nirvana, amongst others. Indeed, drummer Dale Crover filled in for Nirvana when they were between drummers.

On a more Metal note, founding member Buzz has a side project called Fantomas with Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr Bungle).

So respected are the band within the Metal fraternity that they've toured with the likes of Kiss, White Zombie, NIN, L7, Primus, Tool and Rush, amongst others, and were also on the Ozzfest tour in '98.

The UK gig dates are as follows:

30th September - The Globe, Cardiff
1st November - HMV Institute, Birmingham
2nd November - Brudenell, Leeds
3rd November - London (TBC)
4th November - Thekla, Bristol
