The Dropkicks' music is universal stuff. Songs for the common man, about common things, that come together with such fury and infectious melody that everyone within earshot is struck straight. Dropkick Murphys, as much as any of the 'punk' or 'blue collar' labels they've earned, are fantastic songwriters. They are on the same quest as their beloved Woody Guthrie or their buddy Bruce Springsteen: how to get that big truth to come out the other end of the speakers in a way people all over the world will feel in their bones.
Signed and Sealed in Blood is their second with producer Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Old Crow Medicine Show), which was recorded at Boston's Q Division studios and mixed by Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes). "We had such a great time writing our last album, Going Out In Style, we were excited to get back into the studio right away," says bassist and co-lead singer Ken Casey. "Where Going Out in Style was a concept album—kind of intricate and difficult—this one is catchy, fun, and as sing-along as can be."
Since they first hit the scene in 1996, the Boston seven-piece have racked up record sales in excess of 4 million worldwideand have collaborated with numerous global superstars including Bruce Springsteen (who featured on 'Going Out In Style'). Their smash hit single "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" exceeded platinum status and was featured heavily in Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning film, The Departed. Their 2011 offering, 'Going Out In Style', debuted in the Billboard Top 10 at #6, marking the band's highest chart entry to date and heralding the continued success of their independent label Born & Bred Records. The band now sell out shows worldwide and have cultivated one of the most fervent fan bases in rock music.
Dropkick Murphys are Al Barr (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, accordion, whistle, vocals), Ken Casey (lead vocals, bass guitar), Jeff DaRosa (banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, vocals), James Lynch(guitar, vocals), and Scruffy Wallace (bagpipes, tin whistles).
