Acclaimed British Metal Trio Absolva are making good progress with their album, and the cover art has now been released.

'Anthems to the Dead' features special guests Doug Scarratt of Saxon on lead guitar and Luke Appleton of Iced Earth on rhythm guitar and harmony lead guitar. The album is set for release on 5th May 2014 to coincide with the band's UK tour dates.

The band commented: "The front cover of our upcoming 'Anthems To The Dead' album has been finalised & here it is, thanks once again to Mike Collins of Lungfull Design for his great work! Those of you with a keen eye will notice a very different take on the 'Flames Of Justice' design included this time in a more historical way on the banner/flag here & later on you'll get an insight into the album lyrics that inspired the album title & front cover theme. We've started putting the fanpack details together & we promise there's some great things to come there."

The first video, for the track 'Never Back Down' was released earlier this month - check it out below:

'Anthems To The Dead' will be Absolva's 3rd album release, following the debut studio album 'Flames Of Justice' released in November 2012, and the live CD and DVD 'Beyond Live' from September 2013.

Their history has been nothing short of prolific, having formed in May 2012, in the wake of Fury UK bassist Luke Appleton joining US giants Iced Earth.

A debut show at SOS Festival, plus 3 shows as special guests with Iced Earth were followed by memorable performances at Bloodstock Open Air and Hammerfest in the UK, as well as Wizzfest, Skull Fest, Metal Inferno and Summerrock festivals in Europe.

Absolva have subsequently toured the UK and Europe extensively, mainly as a headline act but also as special guests with Michael Schenker's Temple Of Rock in France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.

Absolva's modern take on the art of British Metal has attracted a legion of admirers in the press including here at MetalTalk, where they were voted among the best of 2013.

Here's a fabulous Aerosmith pictorial document as seen through the lens of famed British photographer Tony Mottram. Tony photographed the band over many years for various magazines and now has a monthly column here on MetalTalk.

As was often the case, only one photo ever got published and in the fast moving world of weekly magazines sometimes entire sessions would be done and left undeveloped.

Tony started shooting Aerosmith from towards the end of the period with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay and onwards through the return of original members Joe Perry and Brad Whitford that resulted in the albums 'Done With Mirrors', 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump'.

As well as shooting the band several times in England, this collection includes images from a session at the band's rehearsal room in Boston. Littered throughout is a mixture of live and off stage photos including a selection of photos taken at London's famous Marquee club when they were joined on stage by Jimmy Page.

This limited edition hardback book, presented in a flight case and printed on silk paper, is an opportunity to own a unique selection of photos, most of which have never seen the light of day before.

This unique item is presented in an aluminium flight case and will be published in late November. Earlybird subscribers who order by 31st October will have their name printed within a dedicated page in the book.
