  STATUS QUO PRODUCE 'PILEDRIVER' BEER
6 February 2014

Status Quo, in conjunction with Wychwood Brewery, have announced the release of 'Piledriver' Beer named after the bands fifth album that was originally released in 1972, which is also being released as a 2 disc Deluxe Edition.

The beer, Quo's first ever, is described as being inspired by the re-release of 'Piledriver', the first album produced by the band themselves which contains classic Quo songs like 'Don't Waste My Time' and 'Paper Plane' and reached number 5 in the UK album charts.

Described as being a "traditional malty amber ale, balanced with a bold fruity hop character" and has an ABV (Alcohol By Volume) of 4.3%. 'Piledriver' Beer is set to sit alongside Iron Maiden's best selling 'Trooper' Ale as well as similar products marketed by AC/DC, Motörhead and even 'Whip Ale' which is produced by Queensrÿche guitarist Michael Wilton.

Wychwood Brewery was founded by Paddy Glenny in 1983, and is located in the town of Witney, Oxfordshire. The Brewery is currently owned by Refresh UK (a subsidiary of Marston's) and their flagship brand is Hobgoblin. The brewery produces around 50,000 barrels (8,200,000 litres) of cask ale each year, and is the UKs largest brewer of organic ales.

The classic line up of Status Quo featuring stalwarts Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi alongside ex-bass player Alan Lancaster and ex-drummer John Coghlan have announced a final series of dates in Europe and the UK during March and April, and they recently confirmed that legendary guitarist Wilko Johnson will be supporting the band on selected dates. The support band for the other dates has yet to be confirmed.

Johnson didn't expect to still be alive this year after being diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer in early 2013. After being told by Doctors that he had only nine or ten months to live, Johnson undertook a farewell tour and a farewell album with The Who's lead singer Roger Daltrey has just been released.

After the announcement was made, Quo's Francis Rossi said "(Wilko) is a true British original. We're delighted to have him on the road with us - and we know the Quo audience will welcome him and his extraordinary band with open arm"' while Rock Parfitt advised fans to "get there early; you don't want to miss this!"
