Hard Rock Hell run the annual Highway To Hell competition to find the very best unsigned acts in the UK to perform at their various Chic Talent-run festivals and the final was held at the Classic Grand in Glasgow over the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September.

For those unaware of the competition, bands are asked to submit an entry and hundreds apply each year. The number of bands has whittled down over the last few months from hundreds right down to the seventeen finalists who were invited to perform a short live set at in Glasgow.

Each band performs in front of a live audience of Hard Rock Hell Black Circle members (a community of like minded people who believe in everything the Hard Rock Hell brand represents) and ordinary Hard Rock and Metal fans who turned up on the night then vote on the bands that they want to appear at the festivals - the band with the most votes wins - simple!

The rules of performance at the competition are just as simple too - each band has only twenty minutes to perform and are judged on songwriting, performance, technique and showmanship. The stipulation is that each band must include at least one cover song in their set.

The voting this year was "very clear cut" said the organisers and the final results were as follows:

Texas Flood ,the South Wales three piece, are the overall winners whose prize is a worldwide Record Contract with Off Yer Rocka Recordings, an appearance at HRH Road Trip Ibiza plus the privilege of opening Hard Rock Hell.

The band, who describe themselves as three like minded individuals who have the aim of creating "balls to the wall rock and roll" told us after they were announced as the winners, "We would like to say thanks to all those involved in making our weekend in Glasgow so awesome! Firstly to Fleur Elliott & all the organisers of the competition plus Ceri Davies for putting us forward in the first place. Congratulations to all the bands that made it to the final, it was a truly great weekend of music and finally thanks to all those that voted - we are eternally grateful! See you at Hard Rock Hell!"

The National Runner Up were Lake District based band Heartbreak Remedy whose prize was an appearance at Hard Rock Hell.

Commented the band, "We would like to thank all who was there who voted for us, but also to thank everyone who has supported since we started this band eighteen months ago. Who would of thought a drunken idea would lead to this. Peace, love and most of all THANK YOU"

This year there were two bands voted into third place. Another Welsh band, The 8th Bridge won an appearance at Hammerfest while Newcastle based band Hellion Rising won an appearance at Hard Rock Hell.

Shortly after the results were announced, The 8th Bridge said: "Third place motherfuckers! Out of almost eight hundred bands entered throughout the UK we have managed third! See you at Hammerfest!"
