MOTÖRHEAD STILL RUNNING DOWN THE HIGHWAY: PHIL, MIKKEY AND EDDIE ALL GEARED UP FOR FORTHCOMING DATES
21st July 2016

motorhead

It's time for an update on Motörhead as despite the fact the band have played their last gig and released their last studio album, this is an institution that left an unforgettable and timeless legacy that will continue for generations. Beethoven is still the number one classical artist around and he hasn't played live for 189 years and it will be the same with Motörhead, although who will be writing these updates in 2205 is currently undecided.

Lemmy's favourite bar, the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California will be unveiling a statue of the late, great frontman on August 24th at 7.00pm and this event is open to the public.

Los Angeles-based artist Travis Moore was chosen to create the life-size cast bronze statue which stands at just over six feet tall. It will be permanently housed in a special shrine that is currently being constructed in the patio bar area at the Rainbow.

Travis initially sculpted the likeness as an 18-inch maquette that was then made into a life-size sculpture, molded in wax and ultimately poured and cast in bronze.

Travis worked for free but there were considerable costs associated with the work involved and a funding campaign was launched by Katon De Pena from classic underground thrash-metal band Hirax, who raised around $23,000 to support the building of the statue.

Katon said in January: "Lemmy was dedicated to us. Now is our chance to say 'thank you.' Travis will create the best Lemmy sculpture on the planet."

And as you can see from these videos, Katon is probably right.

Benjamin Waxx has posted a really unique tribute to Lemmy which includes a massive host of names in a montage rendition of 'Ace Of Spades'.

Included are Kiko from Megadeth and Angra, Shinedown, Dragonforce, Atreyu, Halestorm, Amon Amarth, Brian Sagel, Angra, Sick Of It All, Vintage Trouble, Discharge, Nashville Pussy, Ultra Vomit, Mass Hysteria, Aldebert, No One Is Innocent, Jambinai, Raveneye, Junior Rodriguez, ADX, Carousel Vertigo, Brian Slagel, Zegut and Ladies Ballbreaker and more.

Little is known about the origins of this video but it seems to have been filmed at last month's Hellfest in Clisson, France and it's most definitely a full-on professional job. Have a look for yourself and enjoy!

Mikkey Dee was originally scheduled to play with Thin Lizzy at this coming weekend's Ramblin' Man Fair in Maidstone but he's out with The Scorpions instead and clearly having a great and very successful time with the Germans as they tour the globe, according to his recent Twitter posts.

Mikkey tweeted the following on 26th June from Lisbon where the band were gearing up for their latest gig of their 50th Anniversary World Tour:

Phil Campbell meanwhile is gearing up for Bloodstock Festival where his All Starr Band will be headlining the Sophie Lancaster Stage on the opening day of the festival, Thursday 11th August. Phil has a video message to Bloodstock fans and here it is:

After Bloodstock, Phil's All Starr Band have two more dates in August before they hit the road for twelve dates across the UK in November and December. Here's the dates right here and having seen the All Starr Band this is one to really look forward to.

Fast Eddie Clarke is also gearing up for live appearances with Fastway who hit the road with Saxon and Girlschool in October for ten UK dates on Saxon's Battering Ram World Tour.

"Gonna be a great tour with Fastway and Girlschool", Saxon frontman Biff Byford told us. "I think this line-up is unique, you don't wanna miss it. Looking forward to battering some halls... Welcome to the Metal church!"

The current Fastway line-up features Fast Eddie with Toby Jepson on vocals, Steve Strange on drums and Mama's Boys' John McManus on bass. The full tour dates are right here:

And finally, for now, the very first release from Motörhead Music is available on Friday.

Several years ago, Motörhead (together with UDR Music) formed their own label as Lemmy and the boys were concerned about where the support was for rock n' roll bands trying to get a leg up, so they decided forming their own label would be the way to help.

In 2014, the band finally chose a few bands to support, with Lemmy insistent that Budderside and Others be on the inaugural Motörboat and that Barb Wire Dolls also receive the full support of Motörhead Music and its staff. Now all three will lead the charge for Motörhead Music in 2016 and the new Barb Wire Dolls album, the very first Motörhead Music release, is reviewed in full right here.

"That was a great time, the summer of 71 - I can't remember it, but I'll never forget it!"
