EXCLUSIVE: SAXON AND GIRLSCHOOL TOO HOT TO HANDLE AT WACKEN: DIO MAKES GUEST APPEARANCE AND TWISTED SISTER'S FIRE BURNS ONE LAST TIME
7th August 2016

Heavy Metal thunder struck Wacken's Main Stage on the opening day of the biggest and best Metal festival in the world as Saxon, Warlords of England supreme, absolutely tore the Main Stage apart.

Saxon displayed a total mastery of their art as they showed their comtemporaries just what Heavy Metal is, where it came from and exactly how it should be played with an utter Metal masterclass.

Following this, on Friday evening, Princesses of the night Girlschool undertook a hit and run mission on the W:E:T: Stage and basically trashed the place with their best and most up-tempo performance of the year.

Both bands paid heartfelt tributes to Lemmy and it's going to be very, very special when Girlschool join Saxon and Fast Eddie Clarke who is back with Fastway for October's UK tour.

Biff was interviewed by Sara Kelly-Husain of ARTE Concert before Saxon hit the stage and displayed all his usual style and intelligence.

It's an insightful and interesting interview and well worth a watch. Biff even talks extensively about groupies here and gives some wonderful anecdotes from a life on the road.

We've got lots of pictures of Saxon and Girlschool's performances below but unfortunately there are no good quality videos available yet.

Although there is little to see in this fan footage, the audio gives you a flavour of the atmosphere and an idea of just how hot Biff and his men were at Wacken 2016.

Ronnie James Dio made a return to Wacken's Main Stage when his new hologram made its debut appearance during Dio Disciples' performance late Saturday/early Sunday. Billed as "Dio Disciples Ft. A Very Special guest", Dio Disciples are the baton carriers and Ronnie will be appearing at many more of their shows in future.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Wendy Dio said: "I cried the first time I saw it. It was quite, quite scary. Our crew, when they first saw it at rehearsal, they were in tears. It's absolutely amazing."

Dio Disciples guitarist Craig Goldy first saw the hologram at a band rehearsal and said: "It was very surreal. I could see him – he was moving and singing – but I couldn't touch him. It was surreal almost to have him here again."

Twisted Sister said Auf Weidersehen" to Germany for the very final time late on Saturday night and they're doing the same in England next weekend and we'll be there to cover that in full. The world will be a quieter place without Twisted Sister.

Here's the shots of Saxon and Girlschool, England's finest, absolutely slaying Wacken and showing just why Europe cannot possibly survive without British export. And the bands played on...
