Deep Purple are the Friday night headliner for France's Hellfest with Aerosmith and Linkin Park the Saturday and Sunday headliners. Hellfest takes place at Clisson on 16th, 17th and 18th June 2017.

Just as they did last year, Hellfest have announced the full bill in one hit and the 2017 line-up is varied and incredibly strong.

Also slated for the Gallic Metal weekend are Prophets Of Rage who feature Rage Against The Machine members, Five Finger Death Punch who will be keeping bad company with Slayer in what may be their last European festival run, British Metal crusaders Saxon, W.A.S.P. and Alter Bridge and Airbourne who are both currently enjoying huge plaudits.

One big surprise is veteran French Metallers Trust being placed high up the bill. Trust are Nicko McBrain's pre-Iron Maiden band and also once featured the man Nicko replaced in Maiden, the late Clive Burr.

Trust disbanded in 1984 and the original line-up reformed in 2008 to perform at the Festival des Terres Neuvas. In September 2008, a new album, '13 à Table', was released and in 2012 the band played Sonisphere France.

The brilliant Opeth and Behemoth are surprisingly low down the bill with Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons rising up the rankings. Alestorm, The Damned and Blue Öyster Cult are among many other noteable additions to a line-up that is remarkable in many ways.

Hawkwind, Týr, The Dead Daisies, Jared James Nichols and Inglorious are all included, making this easily the strongest 2017 line-up announced so far.

Deep Purple came to an end in 1976 but MkII reunited in 1984 for the 'Perfect Strangers' album and toured America and Japan before reaching Europe in June 1985.

They played four sold out shows in Sweden, two large festivals in Germany, three gigs in France and many more around the continent, however in their homeland fans had to settle for just one open-air concert at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire.

It was the wettest June day since records began but for the 75,000 who attended it was an experience to savour, with many too young to have seen Purple in the seventies, witnessing them for the first time.

'For One Night Only' is a celebration of that day, based around the huge number of previously unpublished photos of the event, including images from Pete Still and George Bodnar whose photos were used on Purple's official 'In The Absence Of Pink' album, which was recorded at Knebworth 85.

According to then-Sounds photographer Tony Mottram, who had braved the weather all day, just prior to Purple taking the stage, they were all moved from the press pit. Fortunately it didn't deter the photographers too much and whilst some took photos from further back, Alan Perry had wormed his way into the front of the crowd to take his shots.

Mick Gregory however was fortunate enough to be allowed to stand on Jon Lord's side of the stage and his photos offer a different perspective.

'For One Night Only' also looks at the build up and the aftermath with the story told by Purple aficionado Jerry Bloom. Drawing on interviews and memories from the band and crew it also includes personal recollections from the photographers, the band, the fans and much more.

All purchasers of 'For One Night Only' can enter a competition to list all the Deep Purple song titles that can be found in the introductory chapter of the text and the first three successful entrants will win a 50% refund on the book price.

Considering used ticket stubs for the gig are often sold on eBay for £20 or more, we feel that this is a superb opportunity to own what will inevitably become a collector's item in its own right. These will sell quickly so once they are gone that's it!

Order now and get it delivered before Christmas.
