Green Day lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong has exploded at a fan who pointed out to him that "people have the right to support Trump", launching a tirade of abuse and telling him to stop listening to his records.

Armstrong posted a screenshot of Trump's controversial tweet of last Tuesday saying that he has a "bigger and more powerful nuclear button" than North Korea leader Kim Jong Un's.

Armstrong captioned the photo:

"This isn't funny. This is our president acting like a madman drunk on power THREATENING to kill innocent starving people by way of nuclear war.

"The 25th amendment needs to be enforced. This man is sick and unfit for office. I don't care if your liberal or conservative.. this has to stop. Please share #impeachtrump."

His comment gained more than 150,000 likes, but one fan pointed out that it have little effect, saying.

"I hate to sound like a dick Billie but you are liberal and people have the right to support Trump and whatever you say won't change anything to Trump supporters."

Armstrong responded:

"Well then go fuck yourself you stupid piece of shit. If that's the way you feel about mass destruction and murder then fuck off. Stay the fuck off my Instagram and don't come back. Don't listen to my fucking records.

"I have no problem telling ignorant fucks like you to go to hell. That goes for any other stupid fucks that think this behaviour should normalised. Get the fuck out!"

Armstrong has been a heavy critic of Trump since he won the US presidential election. Green Day broke into a repeated chant of "No Trump, No KKK, No fascist USA" during their performance of 'Revolution Radio' track 'Bang Bang' at the 2016 American Music Awards.

Before the 2016 election, Armstrong compared Trump to Adolf Hitler.
