Motörhead

Motörhead were an English rock band who really managed to take the world by storm since they formed back in 1975. During the 40 years in which they were active, they managed to release 22 studio albums, 12 compilation albums, 10 live recordings and 5 EPs, all of which were well received, with many still very popular today with Heavy Metal fans.

Motörhead were and continue to be huge musical influences for many, and that's why they will go down as one of the greatest bands of all time.

The face of Motörhead changed quite a few times over the years, with Ian 'Lemmy' Kilmister the only constant member over the course of their 40 active years. Lemmy was the bassist, singer and songwriter who formed the band along with Larry Wallis and Lucas Fox. They are credited for being hugely influential throughout the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement, that really helped to breathe fresh life into the genre in the late 70s and early 80s.

It was in the 80s where Motörhead really enjoyed most of their success as several of their singles managed to chart in the UK Top 40. The albums that the band released between the late 70s and early 80s also were integral in Motörhead being recognised as one of the best rock bands, not only in the business at that time, but of all time. 'Overkill', 'Bomber', 'Ace Of Spades' and live album, 'No Sleep 'til Hammersmith', are the pieces of work credited with propelling them to the forefront of Heavy Metal.

Motörhead weren't only a great band, proven by them selling in excess of 15 million albums worldwide; they were also the influences behind new genres and bands forming. The majority would describe Motörhead as a heavy metal band, although Lemmy always insisted that they were more rock'n'roll, but they did manage to blend together a few different genres into their own unique style. This saw them become pioneers for Speed Metal and Thrash Metal, ultimately reenergising the whole Metal genre.

This is another way that you can tell that Motörhead are one of the best bands of all time, even now, getting on for three years after they confirmed they would no longer be active due to the passing of Lemmy. They live on, not through their own music which is still very popular today, but through the Metal genre and the Motörhead brand itself. The brand has been very successful, even since the early days, and has gone on to inspire success in other areas away from music.

Motörhead had the ability to turn everything they touched into gold. They really excelled in every area, even including the online casino industry. NetEnt, one of the biggest game developers on the planet, created an authentic slot game based on the band which included some of their hit songs, as well as an intro video from one of their famous live performances. It's a prime example of how Motörhead live on still to this day, in various different ways.
