Motörhead – Starring Lemmy Kilmister

metal video games

Back in the 1990s, legendary rocker Lemmy Kilmister was the star of a little-known video game known as 'Motörhead'. The eponymous game was a tribute to the rock star, and it's everything that audiences love. Lemmy is out of his bracket, boozed up on bourbon, and you have to help him beat up his opponents in this video game. We're talking hard-core fight scenes where he headbutts them, smashes his guitar over their heads, or even breathes his fetid breath all over them. This is raucous entertainment, and it's not dissimilar to WWF smackdown action. Keep your eyes peeled for the beer frenzy binge, and the notable inclusion of permission given by Lemmy Kilmister to use all brand insignia and likenesses in the game.

Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero

metal video games

Kurt Cobain was a legendary rock star. Now, the lead singer of Nirvana is immortalized in Guitar Hero – a glittering tribute to Kurt Cobain video game released in 2009. Players get to enjoy multiple avatars of the deceased rock star, and Kurt is front and centre throughout. Cobain has been dead and buried since 1994, but his legacy endures. Fans are a bit pissed at Courtney Love for allowing Kurt's likeness to be used, however she claims the game had nothing to do with her. The game was released by Activision, and it allows users to play other group songs while posing as Kurt Cobain. If you love the legendary Nirvana frontman, this game will certainly bring him back for one final encore!

Def Jam Trilogy

metal video games

Def Jam is known for everything from laugh out loud comedy shows to hard-core video games. A couple years ago, they decided to test the waters with several incredible video games including: Icon, Fight for New York, and Def Jam Vendetta. The trilogy is everything that hard-core rap music and rock star entertainment is all about. It's a testosterone fueled frenzy of ground and pound action. These are staunch music icons putting their muscle and vocals to the test. As a street fighter in an unforgiving world, you must conjure up lyrics and beats to advance your career. Once you're at the top of your game, you will be betrayed. Now, it's time for revenge with some of the most iconic rappers in the world. These include Snoop Dog, Ghostface Killah, and Method Man. 'Nuff said – let's rock'n'roll!

Fred Durst in Fight Club

metal video games

Fight Club video game is designed for PS2 and Xbox, and was released back in 2004. It functions as both a single player game and a multiplayer game, and is rated M for mature audiences. It's similar in many respects to Street Fighter 2, with fighting moves, and action. It's a blood fest, and the characters play it well. In the movie, one of the biggest rock stars of them all – Meat Loaf starred as Robert Paulson. Other notable celebrities in the game are Jared Leto, Paul Dillon, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter. PS, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit is one of the playable characters. Once you unlock him, you can watch him throw some punches and kick the crud out of his opponents.

Ozzy Osbourne – Brutal Legend

metal video games

Ozzy Osbourne, aka the Prince of Darkness is one of the most legendary rockers of all time. Black Sabbath spurred a huge following around the world, and Ozzy and family had a TV show of note. Fans have called the video game 'the most Metal of all the video games', and for good reason. Loads of other rock stars have contributed to it, including Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne. It's a fantasy-laden game of opportunities. Ozzy Osbourne must gather Intel from people that he meets on his road trips, and although he appears a menacing force in the game, he's quite amenable in Brutal Legend.

Rock Band

metal video games

Rock Band is part of a series of video games released over the years. Developed by Harmonix, these video games are published by MTV Games and EA. The initial release was 2007, and there have been several versions since then, including Rock Band 2 in 2008, Rock Band 3 in 2010, and Rock Band 4 in 2015. These games are fully compatible with multiple platforms including iOS consoles, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and others. Some of the bands you can expect to enjoy include: Metallica, The Beatles, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and David Bowie. What that's not enough? There are plenty of other rockers on the inside!

Omikron: The Nomad Soul

metal video games

Omikron: The Nomad Soul is a fine video game developed by Quantic Dream. It was released by Microsoft Windows back in 1999 and by Dreamcast in the year 2000. Unfortunately, the game was a total flop. That's not to say that its hero – David Bowie isn't a legendary rocker. It features full-fledged adventure, entertainment and fighting. Everything takes place in an urban wasteland known as Omikron. This city is encased by a crystal dome, designed to protect its inhabitants against the ravages of a climactic ice age. David Bowie was excited about getting on board ASAP, and even contributed to the storyline and elements of the game design. He stars as one of the characters in a band of outlaws known as The Dreamers. Unfortunately, the sequel tanked in 2005, but the legendary David Bowie continued rocking on.

Pearl Jam 8-bit baseball video game

metal video games

Pearl Jam was huge in the 1990s, but remember that Eddie Vedder is a native Chicagoan with a love for the Chicago Cubs. This videogame – Pearl Jam 8-bit baseball is all about hitting it out of the park. The game generated a positive response from players, and you can pick your favourite band member and slug it out on the field. Of course, the only hitting that takes place is between bat and ball – this is pure baseball with rock stars.

NIN – Nine Inch Nails

metal video games

Trent Reznor is a legend, and Nine Inch Nails is testament to that. Now, fans can enjoy a rather weird video game featuring this band. The name of the game is Polybius, and it's available in PS4. It's a retro-style video game, and it's designed for the PlayStation Virtual Reality headset. It's best described as a nostalgic experience turned modern-day wonder. The music by Nine Inch Nails is featured in the game, but you won't catch a glimpse of any of the stars.
