Former Faith No More singer Chuck Mosley very sadly passed away at the weekend, just a week after the new Primitive Race album, 'Soul Pretender', was released.

His bandmates have issued a statement regarding his passing and here it is in full.

"We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our friend and bandmate, Chuck Mosley. Chuck had a vibrant free spirit. He was also a sensitive, kind and loving soul. He wanted to be everything to everyone; a good partner to Pip, a good father to his children and grandson, a loyal friend, an accomplished chef, an entertaining performer and so much more. Chuck was funny, witty, charismatic and charming in a way that was only Chuck. His art and legacy will be with us all forever; he was truly one of a kind.

"On November 3rd, Chuck, Mark, Erie and I were celebrating the release of an album Chuck held very dear. Less than a week later, he was no longer with us. Over the past few days, we have spent a great deal of time contemplating the best way to honour our friend. At Pip and Doug Esper's urging, Mark, Erie and I will continue to support the album that Chuck was so proud of. The three of us will donate any proceeds earned from album sales throughout our release cycle in 2018 to MusiCares, a not-for-profit charity, in Chuck's name. MusiCares' services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality.

"Mark, Erie and I wish to express our deepest condolences to his soulmate Pip Logan, their children Erica and Sophie, Grandson Wolfgang and dearest friend, Doug Esper. Unfortunately, Chuck's premature demise left his family without the means to send him off properly and move into their next phase of life. Your gesture of a donation to help with his final expenses would be greatly appreciated: gofundme.com/chuckmosley.

"Addiction is a horrible burden to bear for the afflicted and their loved ones. If you are, or know someone who needs help, don't be afraid to ask. Help is only a call away. "Rest In Peace, Chuck. Love always, Chris Kniker, Mark Gemini Thwaite and Erie Loch."

Primitive Race released their second album on November 3rd. Helmed by producer/bassist Chris Kniker (Revolting Cocks, Lords Of Acid), the group recruited Chuck Mosley on lead vocals and Melvins drummer Dale Crover for the ten song collection.

"'Dancing On The Sun' was Chuck's favourite song we did. It was always his 'baby' on the record. He burned with passion for how it turned out. For him the record started and ended here. I miss you so deeply already. There is a hole left in my soul that feels like it will never be filled." Chris Kniker

"When I listened to the music, ideas just came pouring out," Chuck had previously stated.

"I couldn't say no to doing the record. When we completed the first few tracks, I found myself wishing I had written them. Not just the lyrics... just good heavy riffs and grooves really sucked me in. The melodies and words came super easy with this music. Even though it's a whole different vibeit brought out a side of me I haven't experienced since writing with Faith No More."

The band, which had been something of an international industrial supergroup with a rotating cast that included members who had spent time with Gary Numan, Tricky, The Mission, Peter Murphy, Spear Of Destiny, KMFDM, PIG, Skinny Puppy, Nitzer Ebb, Pop Will Eat Itself and Combichrist, originally took on an industrial bent simply because of the talent involved. For the new record, Kniker approached the release with a more focused eye, bringing in Mosley and Crover who sing/drum throughout the release, along with engineer Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business) and mastering by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More).

"During the recording of the first Primitive Race album there was a natural shift from the industrial sound of our collective histories towards something more fluid and punk," explained Kniker.

"It was something I really wanted to explore with Mark and Erie, knowing we wanted something raw and organic with big, loud live drums as we began working on the new songs. Chuck and I met when he was writing his VUA record. I ran into him last summer at a show and we started talking about making a record. He really got where I was going with the whole concept. I knew he could bring some of that to the record and still put his own stamp on it.

"I never in a million years thought Dale would do the record. He's one of my favourite drummers! We run in a similar circle. The Warlock Pinchers were signed to Boner Records back when Melvins were there. Mark from the Pinchers reached out to Dale for me and I was talking to Toshi [Dale's engineer and production partner]. Toshi shared the demos with Dale and the next thing I know Toshi is asking for the multi-tracks.

"A few years ago, Melvins did a KMFDM remix for a record I was working on so it's cool to have that connection again. This record is completely different from the first one and I think it's cool that we get a blank canvas to do whatever we want with Primitive Race."

'Soul Pretender' is the second album by Primitive Race, following an EP, 'Long In The Tooth', and the band's self-titled debut album, both released in 2015 on Metropolis Records.
