Yoshiki, leader of X Japan, graces the October 2017 cover of Vogue Japan which is on sale on August 28th and is the first Japanese male ever selected for the cover in the magazine's eighteen year history.

Vogue is the world's most influential female fashion magazine, published in twenty-two countries and regions around the world and Yoshiki was chosen for the cover of Vogue Japan's 'Rock Star'-themed October issue.

The photo session, held in New York City in early June, was the world-famous pianist, drummer and composer's first appearance after his emergency surgery on May 16th to replace a cervical vertebral disc.

Yoshiki recalls that the photo session "was very stimulating" and he was able to attend only after getting permission from his doctor to fly from LA just three weeks after surgery.

Yoshiki's cover shoot was directed by fashion photography duo Luigi & Iango. Made up of Italian Luigi Murenu and Swiss Iango Henzi, the pair are among the world's top creators, having produced numerous magazine covers including Vanity Fair and i-D and famous campaign visuals for Dior, Tom Ford Beauty, Versace Jeans and Cartier.

Joining Yoshiki on the cover is Argentine supermodel Mica Arganaraz. She got her big break when she was nominated as the solo model for the Prada campaign in 2014 and has walked the runway at many high-fashion shows, such as Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Stella McCartney.

Yoshiki reveals the spirit of rock in this issue and is currently in the studio completing X Japan's first album in over twenty-one years.

Here's a fabulous Aerosmith pictorial document as seen through the lens of famed British photographer Tony Mottram. Tony photographed the band over many years for various magazines and now has a monthly column here on MetalTalk.

As was often the case, only one photo ever got published and in the fast moving world of weekly magazines sometimes entire sessions would be done and left undeveloped.

Tony started shooting Aerosmith from towards the end of the period with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay and onwards through the return of original members Joe Perry and Brad Whitford that resulted in the albums 'Done With Mirrors', 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump'.

As well as shooting the band several times in England, this collection includes images from a session at the band's rehearsal room in Boston. Littered throughout is a mixture of live and off stage photos including a selection of photos taken at London's famous Marquee club when they were joined on stage by Jimmy Page.
