  cum on feel the newz

12th August 2016

Edition seven of Cum On Feel The Newz. Seven is a very significant number because it was once used twice in an Iron Maiden album title, sort of..

Let's do this...

Metal Allegiance have released the third trailer in support of their upcoming special EP entitled 'Fallen Heroes' which is set to be released today, August 12th 2016. Mark Menghi is featured on the video talking about how the EP came into fruition. 'Fallen Heroes' pays homage to three legends - Lemmy Kilmister, David Bowie, and Glenn Frey - who impacted not just their lives but the world as well.

Mark Menghi comments: "We got pissed. We got upset. We got angry. Just because our heroes were leaving us. The people that inspired us to pick up instruments, to write music are no longer with us... that is where this came from."

If you missed any of the previous trailers, here they are. Alex Skolnick discusses the loss of the three legends as well as how the songs were chosen and Alissa White-Gluz chats about her vocal cover of 'Life In The Fast Lane' by The Eagles.

Focus have released a new album, 'Focus 8.5/Beyond The Horizon' and it's available now. The album features all-star Brazilian musicians including Arthur Maia and Mario Seve joining Focus on new recordings, and vice versa, plus a drum duet with Marcio Bahia.

Thijs van Leer told us this about the album: "For Focus it was a thrill to first jam with Marvio and Marcio in a club in Niteroi and then end up in Rio de Janeiro in order to compose and record these beauties. Having one of the best drummers in Europe with Pierre van der Linden and one of South America's best drummers with Marcio Bahia on the same album makes the world a better and happier place!"

Gunhill, featuring former Uriah Heep vocalist John Lawton have released a rare album, 'Nightheat/One Over The Eight'. This "twofer" brings together the cassette/fan club only release 'One Over The Eight' and the long since out of print and virtually impossible to find second album 'Nightheat'.

Both discs feature bonus tracks with the intention of making this set the comprehensive collection of all the Gunhill studio recordings. This re-release has been prepared with the full input of John Lawton personally who told us: "These two CDs are part of my musical history when I played together with some fine musicians, some quite young and some a bit more experienced. It was an opportunity to cover some tracks that I look back on as really great songs and a few original tracks that have stood the test of time."

Metal Blade have managed to find an album that hasn't been available officially for decades - 'Paradise Lost' by Cirith Iirith Ungol. Initially released in 1991 by Restless Records, Metal Blade have finally been successful in licensing the rights to this masterpiece.

On 7th October 'Paradise Lost' will be released for the first time ever as an official LP. Besides 180g black vinyl, different colored and strictly limited versions will be made available. Additionally, 'Paradise Lost' will be available as a Digi-CD for the first time ever, including five previously unreleased bonus tracks. Here's 'Join The Legion'.

Vola have released an animated video for 'Gutter Moon' which is from their new album 'Inmazes' which is released on the Mascot label on 16th September. They've also landed the support slot on the forthcoming Katatonia tour which you can read al about right here.

Here's 'Gutter Moon'.

The Dear Hunter have revealed a brand new track from their forthcoming album, 'Act V: Hymns With The Devil In Confessional'. The new track, 'The Revival', comes to fans by way of lyric video made by frontman and mastermind behind The Dear Hunter, Casey Crescenzo.

Charred Walls Of The Damned - the brainchild of former Death/Iced Earth drummer Richard Christy - will release their third full-length, 'Creatures Watching Over The Dead', on September 23rd via Metal Blade Records. The band have released the first single from the album, entitled 'The Soulless'. Just have a listen to this blistering track.

French melodic death Metallers Aephanemer have released a new track called 'The Call Of The Wild', taken from the band's much anticipated debut album 'Memento Mori' which is scheduled for a release on September 16th 2016 via Primeval Records. And here it is...

Curved Air have releases the first volume of their rarities series. Titled 'Tapestry Of Propositions', this live album is an hour long version of the Curved Air song 'Propositions' with over a dozen of the improvisations which usually follow now presented together.

Founding member and lead vocalist Sonja Kristina told us: "Curved Air has been performing 'Propositions' for more than 40 years. The main body of the piece is freeform and every night the band performs a different variation in the moment. This CD is a combination of inspired creation that captures Curved Air flying over the edge."

Welsh doom crew Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard are to release their second album 'Y Proffwyd Dwyll' just nine months after their debut 'Noeth Ac Anoeth'. It is once again produced by Chris (Conan) Fielding and is without doubt a whopping great slab of heaviness. The guitars are down-tuned to "Z", the guitar tone is tar thick and the riffs massive and full of hooks. Have a listen for yourself - here's the title track.

Get a behind the scenes look as Broadside preps, sets up, and completely overthrows the stage at this year's Vans Warped Tour with their latest music video, 'The Simple Type'. Shot on location in Virginia Beach, VA and Syracuse, NY, the song comes from their latest release 'Old Bones', which is available now.

Vocalist Ollie Baxxter told us: "'The Simple Type' is about living on the edge of your seat. I wrote it about my younger brother. He's very low key and makes decisions based off initial judgement. He's one of those people that you sit back and ask how he got so lucky to not over analyze a decision, doesn't fear any person, and still comes out on top. Like the line says, 'Shoot first, ask questions last!'"

Norwegian Progressive Metallers Circus Maximus released their fourth studio album in March to much acclaim. Entitled 'Havoc', it can be heard in full at spotify:album:0dZv3dRysD9EXZCB6BVPOi.

The band have been touring heavily in mainland Europe to promote the album and travel to London this month for a one-off show prior to hitting North America for further dates. The London show takes place at Camden Underworld on 27th August with support from Aeon Zen and Looking For Droids. Doors open at 6pm.

Arjen Anthony Lucassen has re-released his rare out-of-print album 'Strange Hobby'. It was previously released in 1996 by a record company who did not say who the artist was and it has been out of print for over a decade and is now a much sought after collectors' item.

This edition includes four bonus tracks which have not been available on CD previously. Of this re-release, Arjen told us: "Back in 1996 I had so much fun recording 'Strange Hobby'. It was great to take a break from recording my complex, bombastic Ayreon prog-extravaganzas and blow off some steam blasting out these rocky cover versions of my favorite songs from the sixties.

"I hope you'll enjoy listening to this psychedelic blast from the past as much as I enjoyed recording it! Groovy!"

The Lounge Kittens have released the second track from debut album 'Sequins & C-Bombs' and this time they've taken on 'Africa' by Toto.

"We've been performing 'Africa' live for years,” says Jen. "In fact, it's one of the very first songs we ever arranged as a band. But we've reinvented it for the album so this is a brand new version that no one has heard yet. We really pushed ourselves with this one and it features more layering than we've done before. By the end of the song we're all singing several parts so it was a whole new experience layering the harmonies in the studio."

There's lots more on The Lounge Kittens right here, including their tongue-in-cheek twist on AC/DC's killer classic 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' and full UK tour dates. Here's 'Africa'.

Thus Defiled's savage 'An Unhallowed Legacy' album is close to being extinguished so this is your last chance to step through the fading flames and explore the endless plains of Hell...

The album, which features remastered, reinvigorated versions of the classic EPs, Fire Serpent Dawn and A Darker Beauty, has been welcomed by the hordes of darkness throughout the world – as can be seen from the small selection of quotes below:

Wardruna release new album 'Runaljod – Ragnarok'on October 21st 2016. It is the third instalment in a trilogy of albums that began with 2009s 'Runaljod – gap var Ginnunga' and continued with 'Runaljod – Yggdrasil' in 2013.

In short, the ambitious idea behind the trilogy was to create musical interpretations of each of the twenty-four old Nordic runes. It proved to be a lengthy and challenging task. Some of the material on the album even dates back to 2003 and the early stages of the project, when multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Einar Selvik started to develop the genre-defying sound and style that Wardruna have become known for.

It is a contemporary sound, but one that is characterized by the use of old and historical instruments like Kraviklyra, taglharpe, goat horns, birchbark lures and more. The vocals range from whispering voices to melodic song and mighty choirs. All performed with sincerity and conviction.

Killatrix have released their new video for the hugely infectious single 'FRFGT'?. Their debut album 'KLTRX' is out on 19th August. This is high energy groovy rock with a twist and a shake and seriously dance inducing stuff, Have a listen here.

Hard rockers Sixty Miles Ahead from Milan, Italy have revealed the album art, track listing, and release date for their new full-length album, 'Insanity'. The album consists of twelve songs and is set for an October 21st release date through Eclipse Records. Tracklisting is: Lost In My Mind, Every Time I Try, Sign For Tomorrow, Insanity, Dirt And Lust, Let Go, Dead Space, Neverending Fight, All My Fears, No One Else, Absence Of Light, Used To Believe.

Here's 'Neverending Fight' from Insanity'.

Following a sold out UK tour with Milk Teeth, a blistering show at The Great Escape, plus numerous plays on BBC Radio 1 and Beats1, Black Foxxes have announced that their debut album, 'I'm Not Well', featuring the new single of the same name along with 'Husk' and 'River', is set for release via Search and Destroy/Spinefarm Records on August 19th. The album features artwork by Dan P Carter of the Radio 1 Rock Show.

Lord Adrian Bushby and Mark Holley from the band told us: "You can now pre-order our bloody album! It's taken the best part of a couple of years for us to reach this point from signing a record deal that was right for us, creating content with a direct message, and recording it with the guy we felt best suited to our sound.

"As it was mental health awareness week last week, the timing of this is pretty apt. This record is for all you ill fucks, fighting that daily battle in which ever way that may be. If you love rock music, it's probably for you, too!"

Last week, the band released the single and video for 'I'm Not Well', and the latter has already amassed 50k views on YouTube; you can watch it here.

Kingbreaker's new single 'Bury The Witness', taken from their debut album 'To The Fire', is out now. Kingbreaker is Spinky, Gabriel, Tom and Mikko, a new London-based band of Metalheads from four different countries and two different hemispheres, drawn together by the need to play music, the desire to do something a little different, to create, to perform, to headbang, to rock. Here's 'Bury The Witness'.
