27th January 2017

Edition thirty one of Cum On Feel The Newz.

On page 31 of 'Trust Me, I'm Dr Ozzy', the wise Black Sabbath frontman dispenses sage advice about calorie counting. "Every minute you spend jotting down every last cornflake or baked bean you ate during the day is a minute you could have spent with your family and friends. Either that or you could use the time to learn something, like a new language. Okay, you'd still be fat, but at least you'd be fat and could order a double cheeseburger in Slovakian."

Let's do this...

British hard rockers, Stone Broken, have announced an exclusive Scottish show at Glasgow's G2 venue on Saturday 20th May. Currently on tour with a blistering support slot for ex-Trapeze/Deep Purple legend Glenn Hughes around the UK, this exclusive Scottish headline show makes up for the band's previously announced show in November 2016 that had to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond their control.

Singer, Rich Moss, exclusively told us: "We are so excited to be returning to Glasgow for a headline show. We love Scotland and played there a number of times in 2016. We were gutted to have to postpone the original date but now it's locked in and nothing is going to stop us rocking G2 in May. The bonus is that we will have just finished recording our second album, so we'll be chomping at the bit to play live again and where better to release all that energy than Glasgow? BRING IT ON!"

The band's most recent single, 'Wait For You' was released as a download late last year and was accompanied by a video which featured fan-submitted photos based around the song's lyrics of... "All the things I wanted to do, are so much better when I'm with you...". As Moss explained on its release, "It just seemed so natural to include fan photos, to show that powerful connection people can make through music – it's a beautiful thing."

Scottish hard rock trio The Amorettes have released a promo video for the single 'White Russian Roulette' which is taken from their third album, 'White Hot Heat' which was released in June 2016, and you can see the video right here:

The 'White Hot Heat' album was recorded at Leeders Vale Studios in Ebbw Vale, Wales, produced by Thunder guitarist Luke Morley - who also helped guitarist Gill Montgomery pen the track 'White Russian Roulette' - and has been receiving critical acclaim on its release. The album also features writing contributions from Black Star Riders front man Ricky Warwick.

The trio are currently gearing up for a tour in March as special guests to Black Star Riders and GUN, and you can catch them live at The Tramshed, Cardiff (2nd March), William Aston Hall, Wrexham (3rd March), The Academy, Dublin (4th March), The Limelight, Belfast (5th March) and The Ironworks, Inverness (7th March).

Award winning Canadian rock and roll behemoth Monster Truck will explode on to the Steelhouse Festival stage this summer. This monstrous live act have consistently been the most requested band by the Steelhouse faithful.

Promoter Max Rhead told us, "Monster Truck are by far and away the most requested band we've booked this year. I think their incredible mainstage performance at Download last year has seen their popularity grow massively. We're looking forward to welcoming these 'proper rockers' to our mountaintop".

This will be the seventh consecutive year for the Steelhouse Festival, which aims to be the UK's best value rock festival. This family friendly event has built up a true following and a real heritage of its own over the six previous successful years.

'The Source' is an exciting new chapter in the Ayreon saga, with contributions from renowned vocalists James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Simone Simons (Epica), Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia), and Russell Allen (Symphony X).

'The Source' will be released on April 28 through Ayreon's new label Mascot Label Group/Music Theories Recordings. Just as on his previous albums, Arjen Lucassen plays a wide variety of instruments, while the inimitable Ed Warby (o.a. Elegy, Gorefest, Hail Of Bullets) once again masterfully handles the drums.

2017 will be a particularly exciting year for Ayreon fans thanks to a unique chance to actually see Ayreon live. Limited to three exclusive performances, "The Ayreon Universe" will take place in September in the prestigious 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. This unprecedented live event features the best of twenty years of Ayreon music, brought to life by a top cast of musicians such as Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Damian Wilson (Threshold), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), Anneke van Giersbergen, and various others.

The reclusive Arjen Lucassen himself is also expected to make a rare appearance on stage. The tickets for all concerts – 9000 in total – sold out within a day, proving once again that the Ayreon magic is still very much alive and kicking.

Pagan Black Metal act Sauron are releasing the classic The Baltic Fog on vinyl for the first time ever via Wheelwright Productions. Ahead of the release, the band have unveiled the track 'Klasztor' ('Monastery' in Polish). The new single artwork has been specially created by Robert A. von Ritter.

Originally recorded and released in 1995, the remastered version of The Baltic Fog will be limited to 200 copies. The LP is scheduled for a 3rd March 2017 release and is available for pre-orders via the record label's online store.

The Baltic Fog LP was remastered by Haldor Grunberg at Satanic Audio (Thaw, Mentor) and will also include an exclusive double sided A2 poster with drawings by Krzysztof "Sirkis" Grzywacz (North) and Robert A. von Ritter (Outre, Witchmaster, In Twilight's Embrace etc.). The new album cover drawing was done by Magadelena Jędrzejczak-Nalazek.

A first glimpse into the forthcoming 'The Great Corrupter' Mortiis album has been revealed with a double single 'Doppelganger'/'The Shining Lamp of God', remixed by German industrial legends Die Krupps and club heroes Leæther Strip.

'The Great Corrupter' is due for release on April 21 via Omnipresence Production. The record is a collection tracks from Mortiis' 'The Great Deceiver' album, deconstructed and masterfully "corrupted" by the likes of Chris Vrenna, Rhys Fulber, Die Krupps, John Fryer, GODFLESH, Merzbow, Apoptygma Berzerk, In Slaughter Natives, Raison D´Etre, PIG, and many more.

The band recently announced they will be embarking on a nine-date UK co-headline run this March with PIG, aka industrial pioneer Raymond Watts, ahead of the album's release.

Skunk Anansie have announced some additional UK headline & festival shows for May 2017; these follow on from a full European tour kicking off in late January, with the band set to visit 14 different countries across a six week period, including a sold out London date at the Brixton Academy on February 4th.

Support on the European tour comes from edgy, rockin' duo, The Pearl Harts. An opening act for the UK shows in May is still to be confirmed, but the dates & venues are:

25th May: Bristol, O2 Academy
26th May: South Derbyshire, Bearded Theory Festival ('Pallet' stage headliner)
27th May: Manchester, O2 Ritz

'Anarchytecture' - Skunk Anansie's sixth studio album, produced by Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Pixies, Ghost) - was released last year to much critical acclaim and impressive official chart positions.

Hark are premiering the third track taken from their anticipated forthcoming album 'Machinations'. The sophomore full-length of these Welsh heavy rockers will be out in stores on February 24th.

Mastermind Jimbob Isaac states: "Seeing riffs and rhythms in dreams, and drawing geometric impossibilities could stem from old Mr. Pythagoras' teachings. His dab hand at angles also covered musical formulas for spiritual healing, and while dealing with some super duper psychic predators and energy-butchers during the writing of 'Machinations', Mr. P and his wisdom provided quite the tonic."

With 'Machinations', Hark deliver a perfectly crafted vision of sludge-infused hard rock, while further expanding on their simultaneously progressive and muscular sonic palette.

The Murder of My Sweet is a Swedish cinematic Metal band founded in 2007 by drummer and producer Daniel Flores. The music is inspired by movie scores, film noir storytelling and bands like Queen, E.L.O and Genesis, presented with a modern twist and heavy sounding production.

After the release of two albums, in 2015 The Murder of My Sweet reunited with Frontiers Records for the new album 'Echoes of the Aftermath'. This follows on the heels of the previous record with a more straight ahead songwriting, but still offers the symphonic and cinematic elements the band is well known for and will surely please fans of the previous albums.

Tour dates are planned – be sure to catch The Murder of My Sweet when they play in a town near you

Maryland-based rock outfit Lionize have signed to The End Records for the 2017 release of their upcoming, as-yet-untitled, studio album.

The band, consisting of Chris Brooks (keys), Henry Upton (bass), Chase Lapp (drums), and Nate Bergman (guitar), will be recording in their home state at The Magpie Cage in Baltimore and The Lions Den in Beltsville. The album will be mixed/mastered by J. Robbins, with production from Lionize, Clutch's Jean Paul Gaster, and J. Robbins.

The forthcoming Lionize LP follows the band's 2014 album 'Jetpack Soundtrack' and continues their ever-maturing sound. It's emotionally-driven and steeped in introspection, with subjects ranging from the end of times to heart break within the industry. Following the release, in true Lionize fashion, the band will be hitting the road for extensive touring across the globe in support of the album. Get the lowdown on the new album direct from the band in this clip:

Vola return with yet another brilliantly crafted animated video for their brand new single 'Emily' from their stunning debut album 'Inmazes', out now via Mascot Records.

Just like their previous videos, this was created in-house, this time by the band's Bass player Nicolai Mogensen and his girlfriend Anne Nørkjær Bang. Speaking on how they created the video Mogensen says "The video for Emily was entirely made with paper and pens and photographed. It is the first video Anne and I ever made together."

Lyrically, the album 'Inmazes' deals with entrapment. Mygind told us: "The album tries to capture this feeling of being trapped in mental mazes and not being able to fully experience happiness, basically. How is this struggle visualized in your own mind and how do your surroundings react to the behaviour caused by it. Where the EP Monsters deals with strategies on how to escape the negative thought patterns, Inmazes is more about the distance these thoughts can create between people."

UK Thrash kings, Solitary release brand new album 'The Diseased Heart Of Society'. This is a powerhouse Thrash Metal record that combines experience, maturity, musical skill, re-ignited passion and sheer bloody rage at a world gone wrong.

The ten tracks that make up this incredible album represent a new pinnacle for Solitary's career, challenging the very best that the genre has to offer in the process and provide the perfect soundtrack to the dark times we live in.

Single, 'Unidentified' has already screamed out a warning of what to expect from this furious sonic assault, but there is so much more to discover within The Diseased Heart Of Society. From the unforgettable, epic power of 'Anthem Of Regret', the machine gun slaughter of 'Trigger Point Atrocity', the seething anger of 'The Edge Of Violence' to the breathtaking climax of 'Humanity's Decline' this album is an adrenaline infused, white knuckle ride through the darkness – a bullet train into the black, with no return ticket.

To celebrate the release of 'The Diseased Heart Of Society' Solitary will be playing at the already sold out Hammerfest, 23rd – 26th of March and joining forces with Acid Reign and Shrapnel for a thrash spectacular in London, at the Camden Underworld on April 8th. Prior to that they will; be venturing to Glasgow for a headline show at the 13th Note and European dates and further festival appearances will be announced soon.

Wilson Brothers Music in association with Cadiz Music Distribution are pleased to announce the release of singer-songwriter and guitarist Ash Wilson's debut album 'Broken Machine' on Friday 21st April 2017. The album can be pre-ordered form Amazon and iTunes.

Lincolnshire's Ash Wilson is one of England's most distinctive vocalists, guitarists and songwriters in blues music today. The debut album is a watershed achievement for Wilson, both in terms of the many musical styles in the tracks, which begin and end with the blues at its core.

The album is maybe best described by multi award-winning UK Blues Hall Of Fame inductee Wayne Proctor, (King King, Ben Poole, Stevie Nimmo), as "A fine record that grooves, rocks, twists and turns. You're all gonna love it! Now grab a cuppa, press play and turn it up! LOUD!!"

Disperse are releasing the third song taken from their forthcoming album 'Foreword'. The third full-length of the rising progressive stars will hit the streets on February 10th.

Regarding their track 'Surrender', the band told us: "This is the first 8-string Disperse song. Some of the very first sketches of 'Surrender' came to life more than 3 years ago, not long after our previous album 'Living Mirrors' was released. It is surely a track that connects our band's old and new worlds as it is heavy and proggy – yet also experimental.

"Both lyrically and musically, we wanted to capture the state of abandoning the idea of becoming someone else than who we actually are. We wanted to create that energetic, chaotic but also a positive vibe within this song."

New York Death Metal giants Immolation will release their new album Atonement on February 24th via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band have released their fourth video trailer for Atonement, in which guitarist Robert Vigna and Ross Dolan discuss who should be in the Big Four of Death Metal.

Immolation is a name long synonymous with the extreme music scene, delivering some of the most unique and creatively dark Death Metal the underground has witnessed over the past 28 years. 2017 will mark 29 years for Immolation and in February 'Atonement' will prove that this is one band that does not look back, continuing to push the limits and remaining a vibrant force for the future of a genre they helped define.

With glowing comparisons to Within Temptation, Epica, and Nightwish, At Dawn's Edge release their brand new video single for Evil Flamingo.

Hailing from the culturally diverse Greater Area of Toronto, Canada, the highly talented four piece bring groove to full orchestral arrangements by intertwining complex rhythms with melodic, and symphonic elements; the end product is engulfing. The band released their debut EP First Contact in May 2015.

With US and Canadian tour dates, and a debut album primed for release for early next year, there's nothing stopping the band's ascent.
