It's exactly 43 weeks today that we woke up to learn that the UK voted for Brexit and Ripper Owens had been denied entry to the country for his appearance at Wildfire Festival. For much less contentious and infinitely more feelgood happenings, check out this awesome batch of newz.
Sólstafir are now premiering the third song taken from their forthcoming sixth full-length. The new masterpiece of the enigmatic Icelanders is entitled 'Berdreyminn', which means a "dreamer of forthcoming events" and will be released on May 26th.
Frontman Aðalbjörn "Addi" Tryggvason comments: "The song 'Silfur-Refur' revolves around having a sick ghost version of yourself taking control of your life. You resist with all you have, but you simply don't stand a chance. It travels with you all the time, asleep or awake. The song was written in a few parts – with the intro being one of them. We knew right away that this would be the opener of the album."
The singer also adds a few words about the B-side: "The other track, 'Scorpion Moonrise' was written in only one day, on which we also recorded the demo. The moment, the opening riff kicked in, I already pictured Mat singing it since the riff reminded me so much of Hexvessel – as in their powerful live performances that we have witnessed many times while touring with them.
"As we are good friends and have followed Mat's career in Void, Code, DHG, Hexvessel, Beastmilk, and Grave Pleasures, we all agreed that he would be the perfect guy to lay down his vocals on it. We just love the result and he made the song into what it is today. It's also nice to hear a bit of English again in Sólstafir as we have used that language in the past – and also continue our tradition of occasionally inviting guest singers."
Pre-eminent American rock band Gov't Mule have announced the release of their anticipated 10th studio album 'Revolution Come… Revolution Go', which will be released on June 9th through Spinefarm Records and available for pre-order now.
Steeped in the roots and mystique of rock, blues, soul, jazz and country, 'Revolution Come… Revolution Go' enriches Gov't Mule's distinguished legacy with cleverly-crafted songs, intelligent and timely lyrical commentary, plus downright incendiary playing, while the depth and breadth of the band's stunning song-writing is displayed with full force.
Exemplified by the duality of the two lead singles – the walloping, aggressive guitar riffs of 'Stone Cold Rage' and the simmering, soulful grooves of 'Sarah, Surrender' – the album is a thrilling musical journey and Gov't Mule's most diverse album to date. Thake a look at this behind-the-scenes making of the album.
Purson is officially no more. After a career spanning five years, 2 studio albums, one EP, a number of singles and videos, plus live shows and festivals in both Europe and America, including a full US run guesting with Ghost, the acclaimed, award-winning, ever-flamboyant UK outfit have decided to call a halt to proceedings.
Singer / guitarist Rosalie Cunningham, the creative force behind the project, providing the songs and the vision, and playing most of the instruments in the studio told us: "The past five years have been an unforgettable whirlwind, for which I have to thank our wonderful fans around the world, the band and all the people who have contributed to Purson's success over the years. Their support has been overwhelming, but the Purson framework has gone as far as it could go, and now it's simply time to move on. I feel strongly drawn to a more DIY approach to my career in music, and look forward to the freedom to explore many avenues as a solo artist."
As a way of going out with a (glam rock) bang, Spinefarm Records have today issued a farewell Purson single, unavailable anywhere else. Titled 'Chocolate Money' and produced & mixed by Cunningham and John Mitchell (Steven Wilson, It Bites, etc.), the song features guest contributions from Jon Seagroatt (Comus) on saxophone and Vodun front-woman Chantelle Brown on backing vocals; featuring wickedly tongue in cheek lyrics taking in "cocoa casanova", "raison d'etre cake" and more, it joyfully celebrates an era when bands like Slade & Wizard ruled the charts, Top Of The Pops was essential viewing and vinyl was king...
"'Chocolate Money' is a snapshot of the ostentatious decadence of the '70s. The mythical rock star character with his double-entendre and self-centred hedonism. The industry has become a very different world since then, which is something I will expand on lyrically with my next album. It has inspired my desire to go back to basics and remember what music is supposed to be about."
2017 is certainly a special year for Wilko Johnson. Not only does it mark the 30th anniversary of the Wilko Johnson Band, but this year sees the guitarist celebrating his 70th birthday, which he celebrates with a concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday 26th September 2017.
Given the events of recent years, this celebration at the Royal Albert Hall is all the more meaningful: here is the death-defying Wilko Johnson leading his own party with partners in crime Norman Watt-Roy (bass), Dylan Howe (drums), family, friends and special guests.
"I'm supposed to be dead!" So says Wilko in a recent interview, having been diagnosed in late 2012 with terminal pancreatic cancer. Despite the doctors' predictions he continued to perform and present himself with vigour and a new zest for life. In 2013, Wilko announced that, thanks to a second opinion and subsequent life-saving surgery, he was cancer-free.

Melbourne, prog-rock masterminds Sentia have released a captivating, animated short film as the music video to their ethereal track Hydroflow.
The concept, developed between Sentia and director, animater Oscar Gomez follows the incarceration and annihilation of a prisoner in a sci-fi, dystopian future.
The band are very happy with way the film turned out saying that though it was a collaborative effort the artist took it to a level beyond their expectation. "We developed the general concept with Oscar, and then let him go off and turn those ideas into something interesting," vocalist, Amos Phillips told us.
Jonne Järvelä, the driving force of the internationally successful folk Metal band Korpiklaani, released his debut solo album 'Jonne' in 2014. The stripped and rawer interpretation of shamanistic folk music attracted great attention and gained a lot of supporters all around the world.
Although it started out as a solo project, Jonne has now become a fully active live band with 10 musicians from the Finnish Metal and folk scene. The band consists of Jonne Järvelä, Santeri Kallio (Amorphis), Jan Rechberger (Amorphis), Natalie Koskinen (Shape Of Despair), Eero Haula (Oceanwake), Jussi Rautio (Battlelore and Lovijatar), Yovan Nagwetch (Wabanag), Pinja Lintonen, Matti Karjalainen and Toni Perttula.
The new album 'Kallohonka' will be filled with spiritually dazzling music, it's based on eternal tunes and stories about the returning to foregone-roots. To set the right feel, musicians used a variety of folk music instruments, such as mandolin, kantele, fiddle, accordion and flute, yet they didn't forget about some classic live-band instruments - both acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and percussion.
The second single 'En olé' is a little bit different though, you can strongly feel latino vibes. There's a variety of musical instruments as it's supposed to be in folk music, but that Spanish-spirit sure is breaking out. And it's great, this shows us that Northern people are not just cold and depressed as it might seem to others, they have a serious, passionate, hot-blooded soul inside of them too, they just don't show that that often...

Visionary Swedish musicians Soilwork are very pleased to officially announce the inclusion of their now permanent drummer, 25-year-old Bastian Thusgaard. Thusgaard has been blazing the kit for the band for the past 10 months, but will make his official debut as a permanent member of the band at their upcoming summer festival performances.
Bastian Thusgaard originally joined the Soilwork machine as their touring drummer after former full-time drummer Dirk Verbeuren's departure. Thusgaard began his journey as Verbeuren's understudy, eventually taking over touring duties for the band full-time in the summer of 2016.
In a band statement, Soilwork stated: "We are super stoked to announce Bastian Thusgaard as our permanent drummer. He's been touring with us for quite a while and has been nothing short of amazing to work with, both on a musical level and on a personal level. Taking over after Dirk must have been pretty hard, but he has proven, time and time again, through our tours through North America, South America and Europe, that he is the perfect man for the job.
"Bastian is only 25 years old and already possesses such great groove and fantastic technique. We can't wait to see, how his ability will take us to the next level while we write our next album. It will be a beast, there's no doubt about it. We have so much left to say musically and Bastian will be the perfect drummer, to help the band evolve on our constant musical journey. Give Bastian a warm welcome everyone!"
Bastian Thusgaard adds: "First and foremost, I would like to thank Björn, Sven, David, Sylvain, Markus and everyone else involved in the Soilwork team for their very warm welcome. I want to thank Dirk for his guidance, support and ability to inspire young drummers like myself, to put in the hours needed in order to make it to this level. He is the reason that I've had my life's best musical experiences during these past ten months. To the fans that I've already met around the world and all the wonderful people surrounding me, thank you for your great support and positive feedback. It has truly been overwhelming.
"I am truly honoured to be given the opportunity to continuously work with Soilwork, a band that I grew up listening to and one of the key elements of my musical education. I am 100% committed to Soilwork and am looking forward to create music with my childhood heroes and to see what the future will bring. See you all on the road."
Formed in 2016, The Darts are the explosive union of Nicole Laurenne (The Love Me Nots, Zero Zero, Motobunny), Rikki Styxx (The Dollyrots, The Two Tens, Thee Outta Sites), Christina Nunez (The Love Me Nots, The Madcaps, Casual Encounters), and Michelle Balderrama (Brainspoon).
The debut EP was self-released by the band on ten-inch vinyl in October 2016, with a second EP released in January 2017. The band signed to Dirty Water Records, which re-released the two EPs as one full-length digital album in January 2017. A second full-length album is very much anticipated this summer with six new tracks already in the can and another six almost ready.
"I knew it was special before it even was the beginning," Nicole said of her new band. "These three women are musicians I have performed with for years and years, watching them and wanting to do this kind of project with them. When Michelle and I finally talked about writing some songs together for real in 2015, it was almost like a fully-formed idea in my head. And it has been so easy to make it all come to fruition, like nothing I've ever done before. Even just getting in a van with these people is special. They're just fun, supportive, hilarious, goofy, and no one takes herself too seriously, which is a pretty hard quality to find in good musicians, if you ask me."
Catch The Darts on 25th May at The Dirty Water Club, Finsbury, London.
Belgian Giants Triggerfinger have signed to Mascot Records, home to such luminaries as Black Stone Cherry, Black Country Communion, Monster Truck, Big Jesus and Shaman's Harvest. The band have been exploding across Europe and have played an intensive 200 shows in the last 20 months, which also saw them support Muse on their sold out 50,000 capacity Stadium show in Aix-les-Bains, France and Park Live Festival in Russia.
Insatiable for the live stage they have opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rolling Stones (twice) including Hyde Park London, toured with Within Temptation, Thin Lizzy, Clutch, Big Sugar and Therapy? They were asked to step in and headline Pinkpop after the mighty Foo Fighters pulled out with Dave Grohl injured in 2015 and appeared at Rock Wercher 2014 just before Pearl Jam and The Black Keys on the main stage.
The sharp dressed trio of Ruben Block (vocals/guitar), Monsieur Paul Van Bruystegem (bass) and Mario Goossens (drums) are currently working on their fifth as yet untitled new studio release following on from 2014s Belgian number one album 'By Absence Of The Sun', 2012s 'Faders Up 2 – Live in Amsterdam', 'All This Dancin' Around' (2010), 'What Grab's Ya?' (2008), 'Faders Up – Live in Antwerp' (2007) and 'Triggerfinger' (2004).
In the time since their last album they took the opportunity to collaborate with Wu Tang Clan's Method Man on the stomping one off single 'The One' last year. More details about their upcoming album and tour will be announced in the next few months.
Texas based singer/songwriter Ryan Hamilton and his band The Traitors are proud to announce an eight date UK tour in August and promise the shows will be "as close to a drunken rock'n'roll show in a Texas saloon that folks can get in the UK. Drinks, music, friends. good vibes and good times all around."
To celebrate the forthcoming tour Ryan Hamilton & The Traitors unveil the official video for infectious single 'Heavy Heart'.The video captures perfectly the contrast of the different kinds of beauty in the UK, filmed in a nature reserve near Ashy De La Zouch, and then capturing great street art in Manchester.
'Heavy Heart' is taken from the new album 'The Devil's In The Detail', which is an uplifting and energetic yet sensitive record, that celebrates music and storytelling. The 12 finely crafted songs, clearly represent the band's distinctive mix of melodic pop and rock.

Friday 25th August: Borderline London San Diego, California's Chon has just released the first single 'Sleepy Tea' off their highly anticipated new full-length album titled 'Homey', due out June 16th through Sumerian Records.
The (mostly) instrumental progressive-rock act recorded the follow up to 2015's 'Grow' at Palmquist Studios in Los Angeles with producer Eric Palmquist, who is known for his work with heavyweights such as Thrice, The Mars Volta, Mutemath, and Bad Suns.
The band told us: "We're super proud to show everyone our new album 'Homey'. This time we tried a lot of new things out that we've always wanted to do, one of which being the chance to collaborate with a bunch of our favorite artists of all time, so this is a special album to us.
"The loose concept behind the name 'Homey' comes from the music being inspired by where we live in Southern California. We rented out a space literally right in front of the beach to write / jam during the writing process of this album so that naturally had an impact on how the songs came out. A lot of magical moments went into the creation of this thing, and we hope you feel 'em."
Swedish Black Metal band Svartsyn revealed details surronding the new album 'In Death', which is set to be released on the 9th of June via Agonia Records. The first single is titled 'Seven Headed Snake' and is available now.
'In Death' is the successor to 'Black Testement' from 2013. The album was recorded in the Belgian Mortsella Studio in March and December 2016, and in January 2017. Mixing and mastering took place at Clintworks Studio (Amon Amarth, 3 Inches Of Blood, Misery Index). The cover artwork was created by Chadwick St John (Arckanum, Horna, The Piper graphic novel).
Ornias told us: "The new record completes and combaines the Black Testament and the Nightmarish Sleep albums. My revelations. My deathwork".
Set It Off are now premiering an in-your-face, high energy music video, directed by Matt Alonzo, for fan favorite song - 'Hypnotized', from their latest album 'Upside Down'.
"We are extremely proud to present the music video for our latest single 'Hypnotized'. Writing this song was an extremely cathartic experience with all of that pent-up anger being let out; making this video felt no different," reveals Set It Off frontman Cody Carson. "We understand how important it is to be able to let out your anger, unleash your inner demons, and just act out every once in a while. Songs like this allow you to do that."
Adding a special note to fans he shares "We also realize that this is one of your favorite tracks on 'Upside Down' and we love giving you all what you want. So watch, enjoy, like, and share this video with all of your friends and make sure to sing it nice and loud when we see you in your town next!"
Set It Off will head to the UK in May for a short run of shows alongside With Confidence and to perform at Slam Dunk Festival with the likes of Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, The Maine, Against Me!, Don Broco and more.
It's been over two years since the release of critically acclaimed album 'In Times', and now Norway's progressive Metal legends Enslaved have entered the studio again to record their 14th, yet untitled full-length release. Aiming for both wilder and yet more progressive and melodic horizons, the band who celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, never ceases to surprise and challenge their fans; they will once again step up to the plate.
"It is absolutely fantastic to be in the studio with these new songs", states mastermind Ivar Bjørnson. "So many doors were opened with 'In Times' and the times (sic) that followed; for us as a band, for me as a composer and I guess for us all on a personal level. I have never worked this hard to put together music for an album before, and that intensity continues into the studio where everybody is giving their everything, every hour of every day.
"We are a tighter unit than ever before, which is obvious sonically. The concept conjured by myself and old war-brother Grutle is the strongest we have worked with. Finally, I am proud that we have taken more risks than ever before, and one in particular - and it is yielding awesome results. What does that mean? Stay tuned to find out!"
The eye-catching cover and artwork is once again being currently created by renowned designer and painter Truls Espedal. More info will be revealed soon.
