9th June 2017

Edition fifty of Cum On Feel The Newz.

In 2011 Kate Bush surprised everyone by releasing two albums in one year, one being the transcendental '50 Words For Snow'. It's Download festival this weekend and the weather forecast is predicting the usual. Expect at least 50 words for rain to be invented, most unrepeatable in polite company.

Let's do this...

Absolva
Papa Roach
Placebo
Belphegor
Entheos
Witherfall
Till Death Do Us Part Bullet For My Valentine
Shattered Sun
Living Colour
Angelseed
The Black Capes
SKAM
KISS
S7N
Warbell

Absolva, the British Metal band featuring one member of Iced Earth and three members of Blaze Bayley's band release an official lyric video for 'Rise Again' taken from the forthcoming album 'Defiance', set for release on Rocksector Records on Friday 28th July 2017.

The band includes brothers Chris Appleton on lead vocals and lead guitar, and Luke Appleton on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, together with the concrete backbone of drummer Martin McNee and bassist Karl Schramm.

Absolva rose from the ashes of Fury UK when Luke Appleton first joined Iced Earth as bassist in May 2012 and 'Defiance' is this prolific band's fifth album, following studio records 'Flames of Justice' in 2012, 'Anthems to the Dead' in 2014, 'Never A Good Day to Die' which was released in 2015 and not forgetting the band's 2013 live album, 'Beyond Live'.

With a heavy touring schedule, the members of Absolva have become recognised as some of the hardest working musicians around, playing extensive tours in Europe as the backing band with Blaze Bayley (Iron Maiden singer 1994-1999) and also of course for the high energy and professionalism of their own headline shows.

Chris told us: "(Our) fans have had to wait a little longer than our normal for this record, while we've been on tour with Blaze virtually non-stop this year but we're truly excited to release this first lyric video now. It's an upbeat song and I think more than ever with the new album we've really focused on just what is at the core of a great Absolva song."

Hot on the heels of a Sold Out European Tour through May 2017, Universal Music On Demand have released 'KISSWORLD – The Best Of Kiss'. KISS, America's #1 Gold Record Award winning group of all time in every category, have a stunning catalogue of rock'n'roll classics.

'KISSWORLD – The Best OF KISS' brings 20 of their best loved tracks together on one album. KISS are one of the most iconic and influential rock acts of all time. The band have released 44 albums and sold over 100 million records worldwide. Consummate live performers, the band's illustrious career is marked by record breaking global tours. Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer slayed the USA across July, August and September 2016 with a Sold Out Arena tour. They heard the calls from their European fans and they returned in May 2017 for the first time since 2015's series of Sold Out festival and arena shows across Europe.

In 2016 American singer Emily Tate teamed up with Scottish born musician, Kieran Robertson to create a new type of synthetic heavy rock. Under the guise of Till Death Do Us Part, Tate's dark and sombre lyrics paired easily with the emotional musical creations of Robertson whose joined in the band by bass player Jack Ross and drummer Lee Reston, who both hail from Glasgow, Scotland.

The band quickly developed a unique signature sound using heavy distorted guitars, a djent-like bass tone, various different synth layers, samplers, soundscapes, powerful drums and beautiful vocals and they are looking forward to touring America next month, as they've been invited to open for Geoff Tate's Operation Mindcrime. 'Blue Boy' is the first release from the band and they're currently working hard on new tracks in time for the upcoming tour.

You can see Operation Mindcrime/ Till Death Do Us Part at Charlie's Bar & Grill, Olympia (13th July), Club Sapolil, Walla Walla (14th July), Bedford Building, Hamilton (15th July), Back Bar, Janesville (20th July), The Token Lounge, Westland (21st July), Loud-N-Lima, Lima (22nd July), The Forge, Joliet (23rd July), Brick By Brick, San Diego (27th July), Whisky a Go Go, West Hollywood (28th July) and Count's Vamp'd, Las Vegas (29th July).

UK hard rock trio SKAM have announced the release of a new single – 'Fading Before The Sun' which is due out on Friday 16th June.

The song is the first to be taken from a brand new, as yet untitled album, that's set for release in November 2017. This third release from the band will be a follow up to their breakthrough second album, 2014's 'Peacemaker' and a raucous 'SKAM:LIVE' earlier this year.

Singer/Guitarist, Steve Hill, said, "We haven't messed around on this album; it's the business and we can't wait to get it out there. We are ready to roll with the first song, Fading Before The Sun and we think people are going to dig it. The artwork is mega cool and so is the song."

'Fading Before The Sun' will be available via all good digital outlets and streaming sites. The song will be accompanied by a lyric video, while SKAM are heading out on the road this Summer with confirmed stops at Wildfire Festival, Biggar (24th June), Trillians, Newcastle (8th July), De Montfort Hall, Leicester (29th July), Ramblin Man Fair, Mote Park, Maidstone (30th July), Reaper Fest 3, Eternit Sports & Social Club, Meldreth (26th August) and Phantom Fest, The Phantom Pub, Loughborough (27th August).

Bullet For My Valentine have premiered a video clip for 'Don't Need You: Live at Brixton Academy' which features footage found on forthcoming DVD 'Bullet For My Valentine - Live From Brixton: Chapter Two' filmed during their two consecutive sold-out performances at the world famous venue last December.

The shows in question saw the band perform career-spanning setlists in addition to select performances of their classic 2005 debut album, 'The Poison', in full. Fans will now be able to experience the intensity of both 'Night One' (December 9th's career-spanning performance) and 'Night Two' (December 10th's The Poison performance) via DVD, Blu-ray, CD, and Vinyl.

Living Colour have announced the release of their latest studio album, 'Shade,' due on Friday 8th September on Megaforce Records. Produced by Andre Betts, it's the legendary New York City rock band's first new record in eight years.

Living Colour gave fans a sneak peak of the recording in 2016 when they released a reimagined take on The Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Who Shot Ya?' in protest of ongoing gun violence and racial profiling. They follow that with the release the album's first official single 'Come On'.

The initial spark for 'Shade' came via the mojo spirit of blues pioneer Robert Johnson who possessed Living Colour's soul during a performance at Harlem's famed Apollo Theatre. Roaring through an electrically charged cover of Johnson's classic 'Preachin' Blues', Living Colour moved both the audience and themselves.

"That was really the beginning of us thinking of the direction we want to take for our next project," guitarist Vernon Reid told us, adding "Hearing that blend of blues and Metal was really what got the wheels turning."

'Shade' is their first album since the critically acclaimed 'The Chair in the Doorway' in 2009, is Living Colour at the height of their creative powers, still experimenting as though they were upstarts instead of seasoned veterans. While the blues served as the foundation for the collection, one shouldn't expect to hear the "down-home" style that was once the soundtrack of sharecroppers and southern juke joints before the music rode the rails north during the Great Migration. Living Colour's blues incorporate a myriad of influences, while speaking to the politically-charged climate of the times.

"What better way to talk to the world than through the blues?" vocalist Corey Glover asks. "We recorded 'Preachin' Blues' several times to jump start the project and that got everybody fired up. After that, we were ready. 'Shade,' in its final outcome, is more of a deconstruction of the blues than an interpretation. It was the idiom that gave us our voice."

Papa Roach unveil their official music video for 'Periscope', the third from their recently released album 'Crooked Teeth'. The song and video features multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Skylar Grey.

The video was directed by award-winning firm The Uprising Creative who cited the inspiration for the video was "to create a moody, different look for the band using a stylistic light exploration - exploring color through light, projection and dynamic performances of the performers."

'Periscope' is inspired by the realization that sometimes within a relationship you might not be worth being loved or that the other person may not be worth your love, and the struggle within that— how much effort it takes to make things work," says Papa Roach lead vocalist Jacoby Shaddix.

"One part that I think is really meaningful in the video is when Skylar and I are in the shot at the same time, yet we're not engaging with each other. It represents the 'disconnection' with two people, which is very much what the lyrics describe." Grey adds, "You are loving someone from a distance, not able to reach them."

2017 marks the 25th anniversary of Kataklysm - to celebrate, the band will embark on a large headline tour through Europe in the autumn. In support of these upcoming shows, the band now release their lyric video to the mind-blowing classic 'Illuminati', takn from the re-release of 'Shadows & Dust/Serenity In Fire' in one box.

On their special shows in October, the band will be playing both these classics in their entirety on European stages.

Mexican Heavy Metal band S7N (pronounced "seven") have been in the spotlight of national and international media since the release of their debut album 'Fearless' in 2013, and are now promoting their new production 'Deadline', with their new single and video of the song 'Bomb Maker'.

The album 'Deadline' was recorded last year, and has been widely acclaimed by the public and press. Rolling Stone Mexico Magazine rated it among the best Latin productions of 2016.

'Bomb Maker' video was directed by Andrei Pulver (vocals in the band Lack Of Remorse). A previous call was made on Facebook to invite followers of the band to take part in the new video. A total of 102 fans attended the shoot, which lasted for more than 7 hours, and along with the band headbanged and sang their voices off in each shot.

For a band with such a strong and unmistakable catalogue of original material, Placebo have always had an impeccable way with a cover version. Starting with a take on Syd Barretts Dark Globe, way back in 1996, they have freely interpreted the songs of others to complement the originals. Their choice of covers – from Nick Drake to Boney M; Serge Gainsbourg to Depeche Mode – demonstrates Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdals musical influences and heritage.

With its sledgehammer beat and Molkos keening vocal, Lifes What You Make It– the lead track from last years EP of the same name - has much in common with the work of Talk Talk (who sang the original in 1986). The video concept updates the original, as Brian Molko explains: "The band would be robots playing instruments and that e-waste would replace nature, as it appears to be doing only a few decades after the song's original release.

Director Sasha Rainbow's accompanying film for 'Life's What You Make It' was shot in Agbogbloshie, a former wetland in the heart of Accra, in Ghana, which is home to one of the world's largest electronic waste dumps. It sets an apocalyptic backdrop of first-world waste against the daily lives of those who inhabit this thoroughly otherworldly space.

"I think that it is important to stress that the video is not anti-technology", Molko adds. "That would be ridiculous, considering how much it enriches our daily lives. To me, it is about the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity that has not been chosen. We do, however, hope that it will make the viewer think about the repercussions of just throwing away tech that doesn't work anymore. There are several new and ingenious ways to recycle tech these days. Some companies will even give you money for it. All it takes is a little more effort."

Placebo will play a run of UK dates in October.

Diabolical death/black Metal giants Belphegor have just released the tracklisting of their forthcoming album 'Totenritual'. The record will be released worldwide via Nuclear Blast on September 15th 2017.

'Totenritual' tracklisting:
I. Baphomet
II. The Devil's Son
III. Swinefever - Regent Of Pigs
IV. Apophis - Black Dragon
V. Totenkult - Exegesis Of Deterioration
VI. Totenbeschwörer [Instrumental]
VII. Spell Of Reflection
VIII. Embracing A Star
IX. Totenritual

'Totenritual' was recorded at Stage One Studios, Germany and Studio Mischmaschine, Austria. More than three years have passed since their latest record, 'Conjuring The Dead', was released. The new album will be mixed by Jason Suecof and mastering done by Mark Lewis at Audiohammer Studios, Florida.

The artwork will once again be created by Greek artist Seth Siro Anton, who also painted the cover artwork for 'Pestokalypse VI' in 2006 and 'Conjuring The Dead' in 2014.

Spinefarm Records have a new addition to their roster - Entheos, the Metal quartet lauded for crafting technically masterful, conceptual music featuring one-time members of highly respected heavy bands Animals as Leaders, The Faceless, and Scale The Summit. They have shared the stage with Black Dahlia Murder, Veil of Maya and other Metal heavyweights.

Entheos are currently working on their highly anticipated 2nd album, their Spinefarm debut, which is expected this autumn.

"We are excited to announce that we have signed with Spinefarm Records," the band said. "After meeting and spending a little time with each person who works at the label, we can honestly say that not only are they some of the coolest, most down to earth people we have met in this industry. They truly believe in our vision for this band. We are proud to be a part of such an amazing team and roster of bands."

Melodic death Metal band Warbell debuted in late 2015 with the album 'Havoc', which has gained many positive reviews. The band keeps going - in the last year they played 30 concerts, the most important being Metal Mine Festival and a tour which included Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary.

The band have decided to make a music video of their journey through Europe. 'Distanced' is one of their lightest tracks, strongly influenced by Heavy Metal, so it's perfect to show the crazy mood of the band.

Warbell are currently working on a new album, which will be released next year. YOu can still catch them on the live scene - in 2017 they will represent Poland at Ragnard Rock Festival in France, Metal Underground Resistance in Germany, Barocko Metal Fest and Fryyfest, both in Czech Republic. They are also planning another European tour and many smaller concerts in their homeland and abroad.

Based out of Los Angeles, California, Witherfall is the collective brainchild of guitarist Jake Dreyer (Iced Earth, Kobra And The Lotus, White Wizzard), singer Joseph Michael (White Wizzard) and the late Adam Sagan( Circle II Circle, Into Eternity).

With Dreyer and Michael having previously worked together in White Wizzard and Sagan collaborating with Dreyer on the critically acclaimed debut instrumental EP, 'In The Shadows of Madness' - which included a featured track for the popular video game franchise, Rockband - a musical brotherhood was forged and as ideas formed the duo enlisted drummer Adam Sagan to complete the trifecta.

Eager to resonate their ideas, Witherfall headed to Phoenix, Arizona to self-produce their debut album, 'Nocturnes And Requiems', with engineer Ralph Patlan (Megadeth, Brian Head Welch, #MSG) in late 2014. The album was then sent on to New York City for mixing and mastering by Chris Zeuss Harris (RobZombie, Queensrÿche, Sanctuary, Hatebreed) at Planet Z. Resulting in eight masterfully executed tracks featuring the group's dynamic blend of darkened melodic and progressive Metal, 'Nocturnes and Requiems' is scheduled for release on February 10, 2017.

The album is dedicated to the life of Adam Sagan who passed on December 7th 2016 during the final stages of production. Pre-orders are available now and the debut single can be heard below.

The lamentations about the fading glorious times of gothic culture has come to an end because when The BLack Capes enter the stage, a whole dark world shines in new splendour. Where great icons such as Type O Negative, The 69 Eyes or The Sisters Of Mercy have been unchallenged in the gothic Olympus, finally there is a worthy successor from Athens.

Although The Black Capes are considered a newcomer due to their founding in 2016, the Greek musicians have already gained a lot of experience, already sharing the stage with icons such as Monster Magnet, Paradise Lost, Vader, Rotting Christ or Septic Flesh, and are ready to compete with the elite of gothic rock and gothic Metal.

With their debut album 'All these Monsters' the Athenians impressively prove that they understand like no other, what has always been the spirit of the past. Effortlessly they combine this understatement with the modern sound of our time, creating a masterpiece of hard, gloomy riffs and singing full of tension, feeling and roughness.

Texas-bred melodic Thrashers Shattered Sun have released 'Burn It Down', the first video of their sophomore album, 'The Evolution Of Anger', set for release on July 21st on Victory Records.

"People are fed up and I am certainly fed up", barks vocalist Marcos Leal. The raw, loud, unapologetic and honest front-man connects the dots on all things vexing him, from the bands near-implosion to the worldwide state of affairs.

On the track, Leal admits, "We almost burned this band into the ground internally." Guitarist Daniel Trejo decided to leave the band in late 2015, just as the band's demons came out to haunt them before creating The Evolution Of Anger. "Between all the things we have done over the years, things finally came to the surface. Once Daniel came back into the fold, the first song he showed me was "Burn it Down," and it is a perfect reflection of what occurred within Shattered Sun."

'Dancing With Ghosts', the brand new cinematic video from Croatian symphonic Metal band, Angelseed has been unveiled. The clip was filmed in Zadar by Igor Goić and Kreathia Studio.

The storyline is a slightly twisted exploration on the theme of soul cages. The fundamental idea of the storyboard is based on the five elements philosophy in Japanese Buddhism, known as Godai, whose elements are Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Void. Every element has its own symbolism. Opposed to the five elements, there's a diabolical and materialistic demon queen, the creator of earthly imprisonment.

Drummer, Jurica Baljak, explains: "It's a metaphorical journey into the core of personal darkness where each element is found stranded in its own prison. It represents the dichotomy of life and death through the image of acceptance, finding purpose and struggle with demons in search for redemption. This video is about the journey of mankind".

'Dancing With Ghosts', comes off the band's 2015 album 'Crimson Dyed Abyss' via Sliptrick Records. The video starts exploring some themes which will be present in the band's next album, due in 2018.
