Edition sixty of Cum On Feel The Newz.

Ancient Babylonians used Base 60 to work out how to build pyramids, thousands of years before Pythagoras started mucking about with triangles. If he'd known, that would have saved him a lot of work. Don't keep the good stuff to yourself!

Let's do this...

Devilfire
Nick Menza
Walter Trout
The Dust Coda
Soccer SixFest
Black Country Communion
Brewtal Beer Fest
Three Day Millionaires
Ensiferum
Savage Messiah
Skarlett Riot

On September 15th, Ensiferum will release their seventh full-length, 'Two Paths', worldwide via Metal Blade Records. Produced by Anssi Kippo, the master was recorded on tape, for a true analogue experience. The band have also released a video clip for the second single 'Way Of The Warrior'.

"Like our music combines Metal and folk elements so does this video. It was really great to be involved in the process more than we ever have been before and the result turned out to be fantastic! We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording the song and shooting the video. So turn the volume up to eleven, move your furniture a bit so that you have room for moshing and press play!"

You can't talk about the true greats of Folk Metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with 'Two Paths' they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, 'Two Paths' is simultaneously the Finnish quintet's most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack.

The album comes in a standard CD and a variety of formats. Additionally, it literally takes the concept of 'Two Paths' to heart, with two different versions of standout tracks 'Don't You Say' and 'God Is Dead'

Huge excitement is building for the release of 'BCCIV', the fourth studio album from Black Country Communion, due on September 22nd via Mascot Records.

Following the release of first single 'Collide', Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, Derek Sherinian and Joe Bonamassa have just unveiled a behind-the-scenes video of the recording of the album.

Catch the band on two exclusive European shows in Wolverhampton on January 2nd 2018, and London Hammersmith Apollo on January 4th 2018.

The temperature is on the rise for H.E.A.T. as 22nd October, the release date for fifth studio album 'Tearing Down The Walls', draws closer.

The new album was produced by Tobias Lindell, who also produced 'Tearing Down The Walls', and was recorded at Karma Sound studios on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand. It also marks the return of guitarist Dave Dalone, who played on the band's first three albums, but left in 2013 before re-joining last October to replace founder member Eric Rivers.

To tide us over the band has released the second video from the collection, for single 'Redefined'. Tour dates will be announced soon.

From The "Menza Mega Video Vault" Part 2 of 3, video series - The research/writing of the late drummer's memoir, 'MEGALIFE": Nick Menza - The Book' by J. Marshall Craig can be seen below.

In this episode, Nick takes the world around his drum kit. Discussing and illustrating in his cut-to-the-chase style, Nick shares what he considered his favorite drum brand and what sizes he preferred, which heads, and why. In depth, Nick explains why he is a self-declared “snare junkie." Among the other topics he touches on in this short video: How he hits the drums when he’s playing loudly.

The Menza family, management and biographer recently told the media they vow to "not censor anything" in the upcoming drummer's memoir. 'Megalife' is tentatively due in late 2017, having been delayed and drastically rewritten in light of Nick's passing. A release date will be revealed in part 3. The trailers were shot by J. Marshall Craig in 2013 at Nick's Disintegrator Studios in Studio City.

Ahead of their homecoming headline show, Birmingham rockers Devilfire have unleashed a new music video for 'She's Like Fire' which is taken from their stunning debut album 'Dark Manoeuvres' (out on Friday 6th October). The video also follows Devilfire's European tour as special guests to former Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen.

'She's Like Fire' is the second single to be lifted from the new album following breakout track 'Waiting For A Rockstar'. Devilfire frontman Alex Cooper says, "Being in the rock scene you encounter some pretty extrovert people, I love that! This new song is about someone I knew that was just a whirlwind to me 'dancing with desire'. I'm not afraid to say I was very into this person but not everything is meant to be. Always look to move forward in life."

Devilfire headline the O2 Academy, Birmingham on Saturday 26th August, and will play HRH Sleaze at Sheffield's O2 Academy 2nd September with Faster Pussycat, Vain, Jizzy Pearl's Love/Hate and more.

Canadian progressive Metallers ONI have spent the summer touring in Europe including appearing at UK Tech Fest, Bloodstock and on selected dates with Death Angel and they’ve recently released a cover of 'A Place For My Head' by Linkin Park as a tribute to the late Chester Bennington.

Bennington and Linkin Park were a vital influence on ONI, as frontman Jake Oni told us: "Linkin Park were the first band that introduced me to heavier music which led me down my path of Metal. Chester Bennington's voice and lyrics affected so many people, especially me. The world will not be the same without him. We decided to record this cover as a tribute to LP & Chester. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and fans."

With their influences rooted in progressive Metal, Oni's sound can be compared to the genre's heavy hitters - The Human Abstract, Protest The Hero, and Between The Buried And Me - yet they remain truly unique.

With Jake Oni handling vocal duties, Martin Andres and Brandon White on guitar, Chase Bryant on bass and Joe Greulich on drums, they are also perhaps the first Metal band to feature a Xylo-synth player, in the form of Johnny D, which adds an intriguing dynamic to the nine tracks found on their full-length debut, ‘Ironshore’.

Two of our very favourite things - beer and Heavy Metal are teaming up in Pittsburgh in September. Brewtal Beer Fest is turning up the volume for their second annual event on Saturday, September 9th at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale. Riding the hard-hitting, guitar-grinding success of 2016’s inaugural Brewtal, this year’s version has gone to new a brand new level, featuring 10 bands on two stages and over 30 breweries pouring high-quality beers on one epic day.

This year’s Brewtal Beer Fest is brought to you by Zippo and features Baroness from Savannah, Georgia. They’ll be joined by Fit For An Autopsy, Black Crown Initiate, See You Next Tuesday, Greywalker, Post Mortal Possession, Dethlehem, Victims of Contagion, Solarburn, and Video Tapes to bring you a full day of Metal anthems.

Brewtal also features a series of collaboration beers brewed by select breweries in partnership with bands performing at the event. “We anticipate this event to continue to grow and continue to create a unique environment for beer geeks and metal heads alike,” co-organiser Meg Evans stated.

Tickets for Brewtal 2 are available at www.pghbrewtalfest. Doors open at 1:30pm and the first band takes the stage at 3:00pm. 21 and over only.

Hull-based Punk three piece Three Day Millionaires have revealed new single, 'Fakin It', via Warren Records. An unforgiving punk rock track that takes you by the hand and doesn’t let go, no matter how much you scream.

The single is all about other bands not having an ‘All In’ approach. Commenting on the new material, front man Daniel Harrison says “Lyrically I just wanted to get the point across. I'm bored of watching bands get up on stage and play a half-arsed set to a paying audience, accompanied with backing tracks. It's bullshit! It's embarrassing!

“It's something that we don't want to see in music. We should give the crowds the respect they deserve and keep the standards high. Why are bands scared to go on stage and hit a few wrong notes? Everything is becoming too 'clinical'! If bands would rather use auto tune and samples, then we've got a fucking problem.”

After the success of their ‘Sentience’ EP, hard-hitting UK quartet Skarlett Riot soon began to attract interest from far and wide. Signing deals with TKO Agency and The Artery Foundation management were just the beginning for this highly rated act – soon they had signed a world-wide record deal with the pro-active and forward thinking Swedish label Despotz Records.

With the ink still drying on their contracts the four-piece, led by the unique and passionate vocals of Skarlett, headed back in to the studio to begin work on their hugely anticipated second album. The new material is harder, heavier, faster but still driven by the anthemic hooks that have kept this band at the forefront of the UK modern Metal scene - the result is the amazing new album – ‘Regenerate’.

The commanding voice of Skarlett has taken on a bolder and more forceful presence, and the guitars of Danny are razor sharp and incisive, giving the rhythm section of Luke and Martin the room to progress and expand into a taut, almost hostile driving force, as the first single ‘Break’ ably demonstrates. The regeneration is complete – Skarlett Riot are back.

Kansas, America’s legendary progressive rock band, will release their new live album ‘Leftoverture Live & Beyond’ on 3rd November 2017. This is the first live album since 2009 for the band that has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and is famous for classic hits such as ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ and ‘Dust in the Wind,’ to progressive epics like ‘Miracles Out of Nowhere.’

‘Leftoverture Live & Beyond,’ produced by Jeff Glixman, features nineteen songs selected from twelve shows recorded during KANSAS’s Spring 2017 Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour. The set list includes classic hits, deep cuts, new songs from 2016’s studio album ‘The Prelude Implicit,’ and culminates with the band’s sextuple-platinum breakthrough album, ‘Leftoverture,’ performed in its entirety.

“When we saw how much our fans enjoyed the Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour shows, we knew we had to record a live album,” said KANSAS drummer, Phil Ehart. “When it came to finding someone to produce it, we thought the best possible person would be the guy that produced ‘Leftoverture’ forty years ago. So, we called Jeff Glixman!”

‘Leftoverture Live & Beyond,’ will be released on November 3, 2017, on Inside Out Music. The album will be available as a double CD digipak, four 180 Gram Vinyl boxed set, and as a digital album.

Century Media Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of British Heavy Metal act Savage Messiah, who will release their fourth full-length album, entitled “Hands Of Fate”, on October 27th, with a video for the title track relelased today.

Jens Prueter (Head Of A&R, Century Media Records Europe) comments on the signing: “We are very happy to welcome Savage Messiah to Century Media Records. It’s great to see that a young band can combine the best of old classics from Iron Maiden to Metallica with a fresh approach and, most importantly, excellent songs that can stand the test of time. The birthplace of Heavy Metal can be proud about its New Generation Of British Heavy Metal (NGOBHM).”

The band adds: “We’re so pleased to announce teaming up with Century Media Records. This represents a big step for Savage Messiah and we look forward to working on our new album together and taking the band to the next level and beyond!”

Walter Trout has released the title track from his upcoming album 'We're All In This Together'. The legendary blues man teamed up with Joe Bonamassa for the track, who joins a long list of stellar guests on the album. John Mayall, Joe Bonamassa, Randy Bachman, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Warren Haynes, Sonny Landreth, Charlie Musselwite, Mike Zito, Robben Ford, Eric Gales, Edgar Winter, Joe Louis Walker , John Németh and his son Jon Trout also feature.

Speaking about the track and Bonamassa's appearance, Trout explains: “On the original Full Circle album in 2006, every cut was done live and we were in the studio together. With this list of guests, I realised that was not gonna happen. With this track with Joe, we did it live, looking at each other right in the face. What you are hearing is a first-take and the fire and the spontaneity are just raging. Joe and I were three feet away from each other in the same room as the band.

"Joe’s playing on here is completely stunning. I really believe we pushed each other to great heights, and when the song was done, we all just looked at each other and started laughing and I said: “wow, I think we just nailed it!” There was absolutely no need to record it again. Thank you, Joe for being so gracious and giving your very best to this project.”

Ovtlier delivers a hard-hitting and poignant new music video 'Set The World In Flames', exclusively via Alternative Press. The graphic video brings the listener on a whirlwind journey of murder, crime, and self-destruction that holds nothing back.

Together with director Jessi Conti, Ovtilier display the true horrors of ongoing opioid addiction raging throughout communities around USA, including their hometown of Rochester, NY.

Drawing influences from Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds To Mars, Korn and others, Ovtlier brings the rock edge to a new height of intensity. 'Set The World In Flames' ends emphatically with a SAMHSA recovery line flashing on the black screen.

First came their rendition of Mexican folk song 'Malagueña Salerosa' followed by a reimagining of Mr. Bungle's 'Retrovertigo', original track 'Dose', and a cover of Del Shannon's 1961 No. 1 hit, 'Runaway' featuring a guest appearance by Vandals' guitarist Warren Fitzgerald and lead vocals by Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Zacky Vengeance.

Now Avenged Sevenfold continue their expansion of new album 'The Stage' with their version of The Beach Boys' 1966 hit, 'God Only Knows'.

"Of all these new songs we've recorded, this one was the most difficult in terms of figuring out an arrangement," says vocalist M. Shadows. "Figuring out the middle vocal melodies was also challenging. We wanted to make the song a little darker by adding a flanger and some haunting vocal nuances. The Beach Boys have always been an influence, so it was fun to tackle this one from arguably the best album of all time, 'Pet Sounds.'"

London’s hard rock'n’soul quartet, The Dust Coda, release a new single, 'Weakness', produced by the award-winning Clint Murphy and taken from the band’s forthcoming debut album, due for release Fri 27th October 2017, available for pre-order now.

Singer John Drake told us: “We have poured our heart and soul into this album. We wanted it to be a debut we would be proud of and we believe we have that. All of the songs are about us in one way or another, so are genuine, authentic and honest. This sums us up but at the end of the day we are just playing soulful hard rock n roll and we hope the folks dig it.”

NOW AEROSMITH FANS CAN HAVE THEIR NAME IN FUTURE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

aerosmith

Here's a fabulous Aerosmith pictorial document as seen through the lens of famed British photographer Tony Mottram. Tony photographed the band over many years for various magazines and now has a monthly column here on MetalTalk.

As was often the case, only one photo ever got published and in the fast moving world of weekly magazines sometimes entire sessions would be done and left undeveloped.

Tony started shooting Aerosmith from towards the end of the period with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay and onwards through the return of original members Joe Perry and Brad Whitford that resulted in the albums 'Done With Mirrors', 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump'.

As well as shooting the band several times in England, this collection includes images from a session at the band's rehearsal room in Boston. Littered throughout is a mixture of live and off stage photos including a selection of photos taken at London's famous Marquee club when they were joined on stage by Jimmy Page.

This limited edition hardback book, presented in a flight case and printed on silk paper, is an opportunity to own a unique selection of photos, most of which have never seen the light of day before.
